DH and I are expecting our first baby in March (a boy!). We're closing on a new house at the end of this month, and I want to start decorating the nursery as soon as we move in. I've done a lot of searching (WAY too much time on the internet), and I've found two very different styles that I like.

The first is a froggy theme in blues, yellows, and greens ("Leap Froggie" by KidsLine). Here's a picture...

I definitely think it's cute, and it would be a very fun little boy's room. However, I'm worried that the novelty will wear off for me by the time he's a toddler, and I'll want to totally re-do it. Also, it definitely says "baby room" to me - good for now, but maybe not so good later.

The second set I like is not themed. It's a blue and brown striped set ("Baby Boy" by Banana Fish). Here's a picture...

This is very cute and seems more versatile to me - I can accesorize with "baby things" now (maybe sheep or giraffes), then update it later by just changing a few accesories. However, my mom says it's not "baby" enough - it looks to much like an adult pattern.

So what would you do?

Congrats!

I like them both, but I think I like the frog one a little better, but I am biased. ;)

My thoughts are that the choco/pastel thing will be out in a few years and you may want to redo it anyway. The frogs while they might get tiresome for you, may well be loved by your little one.

When he is a little older you may also want to consider what he likes, thus doing a whole new room anyway.

I think that due to the low babyish factor of both you would be able to adapt either room easily to a toddler/young child.

GL!!

I would lean toward the 2nd one, unless you prefer frogs. I'm loving the browns and blues (or pinks, as the case may be) right now! I think how you decorate will make it babyish and it will grow with him as well.

I love, love, love the second one. The first is cute, but I try to steer away from cute (as I get sick of it after about 2 minutes).

I love chocolate though (the color, the food..., lol). I think that it's a classic look but trendy too, and I LOVE the stripes

I like the 2nd one. I like change a lot though, and a theme would wear on me.

I looked at a few themed sets, but then chose lilac walls and PBK's Emily pattern.

I like the 2nd one better. I did my first son's room in pastel blues and yellows with white lambs and by the time he was ready for a toddler bed (20 months) I was wishing I had chosen something less babyish that would last throughout his boyhood. We don't have the money to redo all the time, so we had to stick with lambs for awhile, even though it was pretty babyish.

Just my $.02, but I'd go with something that will "grow" with your child better than the frogs.

I think the 2nd one is so sophisticated! You could "baby" it up a little bit if you wanted just by adding a few touches here and there...I'd like to see a giraffe some where in the room, I think that's a totally cute idea. Kiddos love animals so I think a safari theme with the bedding would work well and when your babe is a toddler he will just love it.

IMO I don't think you have to have frogs and lambs everywhere on your baby's bedding if you have a theme because everything else in the room is going to have those on it too lol! Sort of like the froggy one you posted...:P

Have you seen the cute Eeboo (growth charts/wall cards) and Wall Candy Arts stuff? Those would be cute in the room too.

Oh, I just saw this one by Banana Fish. It's sort of like the second one but with cute little dogs on it. That's a bit more babyish but still pretty sophisticated. What do you think? ;)

I like the first one. I like things that are baby-ish for babies. By the time he's a pre-schooler, you'll know his likes and dislikes and can redecorate a room for his tastes. You'll need new bedding anyway when he's in a twin-size bed, so that's a good time to redecorate.

You could do a solid color for the walls that would carry through and not need to be repainted (like a light blue).

I have done baby rooms for both of my kids, and then when my son got a big boy bed, it coincided roughly with a new paint job in that room. I like the frog theme, but what I would probably do is abstain from putting up the border and just change out the bedding, curtains and other themed elements as my child aged. That is what I did with my son's room - he moved across the hall when we were expecting his sister, so I just changed out the boy elements in the nursery for more girly elements, but left the base wall color and some basic things the same.
