Trying to decorate nursery - suggestions needed

Hi All,

I am trying to decorate our daughter's nursery. So far, we have her maple (natural) crib, changing table with hutch, and glider with ottoman. The room is painted lilac, and the carpet is off-white.

I have been looking at bedding and just can't seem to make up my mind. I like the PBK Emily line. Any thoughts on how to do this room any cheaper?

My thought was to do the bumper and perhaps a green gingham crib skirt. Or since we will have to take the bumper down, should I buy the quilt instead?

Any thoughts would be appreciated - I am open to suggestions - whether it's this line or something else. I just want it done!

Hi Valerie,

I say save yourself the stress on the bedding issue and just buy a few fitted sheets and a mesh bumper if you really want a bumper. That way you can mix and match all the things you like, save money and have a safe crib. :) (My personal take on the crib skirt is that it's only really visible the first few months. When you lower the mattress as baby sits up/ stands up it will hardly show at all. Just something to consider since you are thinking about the longevity of items. :)).

I went through the same thing of trying to decide what was needed for DD's nursery. I decided I really liked PBK bedding. I bought a quilt, bumper, and crib skirt from there. I had the bumper on and started to read that it was not recommended that a bumper be used in a crib. Plus, it was such a PITA to change the sheets with the bumper b/c you have to remove the bumper and then tie it back on. The quilt also can't be used in the crib so it was waste of money to me.

So... since PBK has a great return policy, I took back the bumper and the quilt. Now, I just have the green gingham crib skirt and a green gingham sheet. (I just splurged and bought the Chamois sheet in green which is so soft!). I have DD's crib on the lowest setting and our crib skirt still shows so that is nice. So, we saved a lot of money. I don't miss the bumper at all and it is much safer not to have it in the crib. I also got the green gingham lampshade and green gingham basket liners.

I think that the Emily sheet and a green gingham crib skirt would look very cute together. The money that you would have spent on the bumper and quilt could be used for accessories to decorate the room like a lamp or baskets.

Hi,

We did a PBK room fairly inexpensively - it was the Safari Animals, which came before Alphabet Soup. We got one fitted sheet, bumper, mobile and valances. Then we coordinated gingham sheets and lampshade (bought on sale), and a braided chenille rug (terrible, awful quality from PBK - I highly recommend staying away from those rugs).

I wished we had purchased the quilt because it would have made a cute wall hanging or throw over the back of the glider, and DD did start using a blanket in her crib around 15-18 months or so (or roughly halfway through her time in the crib).

The bumpers were really stinkin' cute in the crib, but we removed them at around 8 months. So for the $, we would have gotten more out of the quilt (and DD still has her baby blankie with her in the big girl bed).
