What should I look for in a high quality and eco-friendly wall paint for the kids' room? Any sites you recommend? Thanks :)

Hi there!

After a lot of research, we used Sherwin Williams Harmoney Interior Latex paint, which has no VOCs and meets LEED certification - so it can be used in "Green Buildings." This paint should be available at your local Sherwin Williams paint store, and there are tons of colors it can be mixed into.

If you are painting a light color over a darker color (like the dark grey we were painting a light yellow over), you will probably need to put on 2-3 coats of the paint.

Thank you! My painter uses Benjamin Moore but I'll ask him about the Sherwin Williams.

Benjamin Moore makes a low-VOC/low-odor paint called Eco-Spec.

We used a no-VOC/low-odor paint called Ecoshield by Dunn-Edwards (only available in west/southwest, I think).

I've heard good things about these places, but have no personal experience:

I'm a ptg contractor and if you are in California, a company called Vista Paint makes a product called "Earthcoat". They are a well established co. parallelto D & E. The product comes in flat, eggshell, semi-gloss & a primer.

I'm in Chicago unfortunately, but good to know about the California company. I'll pass that along to my sister, who is outside LA.

Benjamin Moore also makes a paint called "Eco Spec" that's low VOC. We've used it twice now; the first room needed only 1 coat; the second room needed 2 coats (depends on what color you're using & what you're painting over).

We just used the Sherwin Williams Harmony (Low odor, no VOC) paint and primer. (This past weekend.)

We had to cover pepto pink walls and a navy ceiling. (not in the same room LOL!)

We are very happy with the paint. One coat of primer and one coat of paint covered everything.

The odor is very low, but there IS still a noticable odor. It didn't stink of the entire house like regular paint does so that was nice. There was enough of an odor that if we painted DDs room, I wouldn't let her sleep in there until everything was done and aired out.

I can't find the receipt, but a gallon of primer and a gallon of paint was about $55 (that was after the nice man at the counter gave us 20% off!)

We were quite pleased with the paint and we will buy it again. HTH!
