Dd didn't wear shoes all summer, (They would be flung across the room) or she would wear the gripper socks. Now she is starting to walk. I need to buy shoes. Why are all the shoes so hard soled and heavy? I am just not sure where to start. What does a new walker wear? I personally have very wide feet. I buy my Birkenstocks over the internet and avoid shoe stores because they make me cry.

A new walker should not be wearing hard soled shoes. Stick with bare feet as much as possible, and go with a pair of flexible, soft soled shoes (like Stride Rites) when you need the foot protection.

Maybe someone has a link on this - I haven't looked for one - but we are entering the arena of "real" shoes (not Robeez) also! Thank goodness there is a Stride Rite outlet near us - the shoes are about half price there!

We went to the outlets today and bought Sara 2 pairs of StrideRight prewalkers. They were $8 a piece after a coupon we had that we got through the customer service kiosk at the outlet stores. So you might want to check that out if you have an outlet nearby.

What i would do is go to a proper child shoe store and have your child measured, i too like the stride rite natural motion system, they are not heavy, nor bulky and are very flexible. Plus come in tons of cute styles ;)

We also use the robeez slippers/shoes for alot of indoor and even backyard use.

Where is a Stride Rite outlet in the Chicago area?

Go to www.striderite.com to find out. I know that there is one in Kenosha, that's where we go.
