View Full Version : "Skater" shirts?

What do you guys think of the skater shirts that are so popular right now for boys? They are the ones that appear to be a s/s t-shirt over a l/s shirt and usually have some sort of design on them but are sometimes a polo shirt look. Lots of stores seem to be carrying them these days and I think they are kind of cute. Probably better suited to older boys but I think a lot of places have them for toddlers, too. My dh thinks they are stupid. He says, "Why would you do that? If he's gonna wear that look it ought to be two real shirts so they are layered and he has the option of taking one off if he's hot." But, based on what I saw in the LE catalog, that's the whole point...wearing the pieced together ones is a cooler option that gives you the "cool" look. ;) So, love 'em or hate 'em?

This one is a true s/s tee over a l/s one:

You didn't post my favorite layered tee look ... the Apple A Day tee from HA! LOL

I personally like it .. it's kinda cute. I wouldn't want my whole kids' wardrobe made up with shirts that look like that, but a couple, sure!

I like them! My boys only have a couple of the ones that made to "look" like they are 2 shirts but in the winter I do the l/s shirt under the s/s shirt a lot. I think it looks cute!

I don't mind them actually picked up one over the weekend for ds at gymboree ;)

Reason i prefer these too the actual "real deal" so-to-speak is my son wouldn't tolerate the layering, he's quite clothing sensitive x(

I like this look on older little boys too, although my Quinn looks adorable in his innocent Hanna apple a day layered tee too. LOL! I've been debating getting Huey one of the skater tees from LL Bean.

Denise -

I'm not the hugest fan on earth, but I could NOT resist the teepee one from LE. I'm a sucker for western stuff in general due to his daddy's western heritage. But he and I had so much fun playing in teepees at the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman, I HAD to have the shirt. Obviously I don't dislike them much or I wouldn't have bought one. I can't wait for LS weather!

I like them....but I also like the whole skater look. I really want to get 2 from Mini Boden (one for Ry, one for Connor)

I really like them! My 7 year old wants only those for school! He wears only skater clothing and shoes! I need to find some plain long sleeve tees so that he can use all the skater tees he owns all winter. Any ideas on nice long sleeve plain colored tees?

Last year I bought DS some l/s cotton tees at H & M. They were really soft and were only around $6.90 at full price!

They are definitely growing on me. In fact, that first shirt, the LE one I am planning on buying for my 3 year old, then the one piece outfit in the same color and design for my kiddo who will be born in a week or two, then just a navy long sleeved polo for my almost 5 year old for their first pictures together. I like the fact that they will all be similiar but different, then I won't get tired of having three of the same shirts or outfits. Of course, I have not actually bought them (aside from the navy polo), because I keep getting sidetracked by Hanna and Naartjie, and now drooling over Mini Boden, but hopefully I will be able to by the time the baby is about 2 months.

LE is my favorite place for l/s tees. They are so soft and have a great fit and washability. And, they aren't unreasonably priced...$12 each or $9.50 each if you buy 3 or more (not hard to do when you've got more than one kid!).

I think they're really cute. H&M has been carrying them for a couple seasons (since Dante was about 6 months) and he's always looked great in them. I bought him the LE Polo that you posted in leaf green. We'll see how it looks. LS weather lasts around here for a LONG time!

I like them too. DS has the Apple a Day Hanna shirt + a blue one from Gymboree. They look very cute on him. Although I generally like clothes that look like baby clothes, for some reason I also like the skater look-think Naartjie!

Denise, my ds loves guitars- but I didn't see this shirt in LE. He had a few of this type shirt from Healthtex last year and they looked so cute on.

I tell ya, this is what I get for putting off hitting the buy button! I was already to order 2 tops last night.....was a bit unsure and I was tired so I figured I do it this morning. Last night the sizes I needed still said they had inventory (not low stock, not out of stock etc). Yet 7 hours later they are totally sold out and wont be back for 2 more weeks. I hope I can put them on back order so I can still use the 10% code lol

Yes, the guitar one is from MiniBoden. http://tinyurl.com/47chx for the shirt. It is $22 and comes in sizes starting at 12mos.

I like them! We have the Apple A Day Tee and it's one of my favorites for fall.

I'm not sure about the polo type ones though. I guess I think polo shirts are a little dressier and the l/s under s/s look is very casual.
