I am making this a poll so you can answer freely without thinking that my feelings would be hurt..haha.
Okay, so, it is getting chilly here at night and even though Leela has a seriously out-of-control wardrobe, she has nothing to wear in the fall/winter!! What happened?!

So, my question is, would it be okay to pair some matching leggings and a long-sleeved onesie with a summer dress.. or would this look ridiculous? Since she is my baby, i think she looks cute in anything, but is this really OKAY?

For example... would it be okay to pair this April Cornell dress with an ivory or white turtle neck and some yellow leggings/sweatpants??

Thanks in advance!!

Rashmi,

I think it depends on the fabric. I have a dress for Bella that is a Hann winter line - they show it with leggings and long sleeves but Bella has worn it alot in the spring with just a short sleeve shirt. Since its cotton it works fin. I can't tell how light that fabric is so not sure.

When you say light, do you mean thickness Helene? None are too thick... they are all light--weight cotton (knits or woven).
What about the Hanna striped swingdress for example? Would that look silly with blue-sweatpants and a shirt inside??

ETA: And if the answer is YES then the diaper-cover is eliminated right? I mean, i don't put the diaper cover OVER the leggings do i??

I don't think that this Hanna dress would look good with anything under it. Plus the colors are very summery. :)

Yes by light I mean thickness. If they were linen or poplin I wouldnt do it. It is hard for em to say tha Hanna dress since I havent seen it. The Hanna dress I do it with is the floating flowers. It was in their winter ctalog but I think the colors are more sping summery. But it came with a heavy winter coat so she wears it all seasons.

I agree with Denise, I wouldn't put anything under those Hanna dresses. They are definitely not fall dresses.

Other than that, most times it is fine to pair a jumper type dress with a shirt and leggings. Unless it is the type that is really just a summer dress.

Denise, help me here girlie! So what colours would be okay? I ordered some Naartjie Raspberry stuff the other day.. and since it is from the FALL line, i am assuming that those are okay for the fall/winter... a rather bright pink. But a summer yellow would not be right? How about light or baby pink?
We have both these dresses that are cuddly soft from pokkadots (under the nile brand)... would these look okay with leggings.. they are on the short side though.. above the knee.

ETA: What about this Carters dress that my best friend gave her.. too summery huh? It is white with a pink-gingham border and little flowers.

It depends on the fabric and design.

We pair sleeveless jumpers with tnecks and leggings ALL the time. Then, come summer, dd wears them alone! The April cornell is a great example - it would go great with that combination. The hanna dresses wouldn't, though. Plus, aren't they cut short in the back?? I can't remember.

As for the short sleeve dresses, we do pair them with leggings a lot, as the school doesn't allow dresses without something underneath.

My vote would be "no" on the Carter's dress (too summery, I think), and "yes" on the two striped ones. Even if they are short, they'll just look a little like swing tops.

It's good to see you back, Rashmi!

I think the Cornelloki dress would be cute with a yellow turtleneck and yellow leggings. Leggings look good under lots of dresses, as long as they're about knee length. If they're too short of dresses it doesn't look right.

And I'd definitely use tights or leggings, NOT sweatpants. :D

I have the same Carter's dress and I love it! I noticed as I filled out the roster that it's a cord-like material so I would pair it with a pink ls bodysuit and make a day of it. Then again, my perspective may be off because we live in Florida (even if it is North FL, it's still FL!) and we get minimal winter weather (month long of 30s and 40s)...

Carters is actually selling a fall/winter line of this same collection, with the same kind of coloring--just more pink than white. I think you might be able to get away on the Carters outfit with some white tights (but not leggings) and a long sleeved pink or white shirt. Although if you follow that old line about not wearing white after Labor day, this might be too much white? ;)

Those both look fine to me, as long as the armholes are big enough so that nothing funny happens to the sleeves on the shirt, and the colors match OK (always tricky). But definitely eliminate the diaper cover. Frankly, it seems like more trouble than just getting a new outfit, what with the matching.

LL Bean has a nice fleece bunting in exacrly that blue/green combo (http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?categoryId=37771&storeId=1&catalogId=1&langId=-1&parentCategory=6784&cat4=6783&shop_method=pp&feat=sdp303) I like summery clothes when it's cold, reminds me that better times are ahead.

Okay, I'm no help on what to wear with what for fall/winter. (I'm in the AZ desert and we only have 2 seasons - hot and unbelievably hotter!), but I have to tell you that Carter's dress is one of my all-time favorites! It's so simple, girly, and sweet. I have bought it for every baby girl I know! Miss Leela looks like a little doll in it! (of course, she looks adorable in EVERYTHING!) :)

Oooh...that Carter's dress is sooo sweet! Leela is beyond adorable in it...I just want to eat her up! :) I agree with the others, though...it's too summery to be made wintery (how confusing is that??).

The Under the Nile dresses would be cute with leggings underneath (if you can find ones that match) for fall...even the yellow one. :D In the winter, though, won't the short sleeves be too cold? Amy Grace is wearing a similar dress right now from Polo that is lavendar and white but it's still mostly warm here. I don't have any leggings to go under it. :( I love it because it's soft and girly but has sleeves (something most of our summer dresses *don't* have!).

Thanks Denise... she is a living breathing doll, my little Leela.
Is this the Polo one you have.. ours is more a dark purple and i love it.. no matching leggings though. :(

Your input really helped me weed out her summer stuff and store it away... now i can focus on buying what she really needs for the winter... a shout out to the ROSTER.. it is AWESOME!!! Love it!! Thanks for sharing Maureen.

LOL about the blurry background! :) No, ours is short sleeved and has the lap shoulders like the dresses you posted earlier. No buttons either although we also have the s/s version of the dress you're showing here in light blue/white.
