I've never bought a coat for DD. Last year, she just wore sweaters (as an infant), and this year, she had a hand-me-down coat. We live in a mild climate. Winters are cold, but not frigid. I'm lusting after a HA Love a Bug coat for her, but I'm having a hard time making myself pay even the sale price. What do good coats go for? Can you convince me that the Hanna coat would be money well spent? I think she'd get to wear it this year and next. If I'd be paying nearly as much for a coat from Carter's, Old Navy, or some other place, I won't mind the Hanna cost.

I'm not sure the Love a Bug would be warm enough (aren't you near me?). It's a fairly thin fleece jacket. I've seen one IRL, and although it is totally adorable, it's more of a fall jacket even for here. If you are going to layer it over a couple other layers, then it might work. I just don't think it would keep out the wind enough.

FWIW, I got a fleece coat for Gracie from Lands' End, but it is their really warm Polartec. It was $34.50 and I think she will be able to wear it next winter too (I got a 2T and a neutral color that will work for next babe). If you are familiar with Lands' End fleece, the Hanna jacket is about the same weight as LE's fleece shirts (not the half-zip pullovers, but the t-shirt like fleece shirts).

Sophie had the HA Zoo Pals coat for her second winter. It was warm enough with a sweater underneath most of the time. Sometimes I put a blanket over her when transferring, but when it was super cold, we used a LE bunting (I'm in NJ).

This year, she has a HA snowsuit for super cold times and a Gap wool 3/4 toggle coat. They're both last year's lines. I bought each one NWT for $40 on Ebay.

Unless you go consignment or LE overstocks, I think you need to anticipate $35-40 for winterwear on average.

Hmmm. Yes, I am near you! I was hoping it might be warm enough to be a winter coat. You know, the coat she's wearing this year isn't all that thick, so she usually wears a cardigan under it. I guess I could do that with the Bug jacket also. Off to ponder this again . . .

Thanks, Marisa! Good to know. Did you like the zoo pals jacket (I mean quality and design of it)?

LOVED it. In fact, I have it waiting for Amelia! :)

Here is Sophie in it. This pic was on a cold October day in Montauk. It was about 40 degrees and she was fine even on the water.
