Here's my question. You've spent over $500 at a store (Hanna Andersson) in the past 6 months. You go to get a price adjustment for the LAB fleece and to pick up a second one, and the sales clerk accidentally returns 2 fleeces at the old price and sells them back to you at the new price, which essentially gives you one fleece for free. You don't realize the error until later, when you are out of the store. WWYD -- would you call the store back and have them correct the error, or would you take it as a gift?

I would call them back... being Hanna, they might even give it to you for free. Guilt free wearing. :)

I would initially be tempted to not say anything, but would eventually call. I personally would feel guilty until I did.

I would call. I am sure they will give you the fleece for free. I would feel better knowing that I tried.

I agree with the others...I'd call. The guilt would get me every time I looked at that jacket.

Best,
Mary

Lol, I doubt anyone would admit on the boards that they wouldn't call. :)

Here's what I did. I actually made my decision as to what to do and did it before I posted the query, I was merely curious what others would do (though I would assume that some of the people who read the query and didn't respond...would have kept it). I called the store when I noticed the error and they were closed. I then called Hanna corporate and they hadn't reconciled the computers yet, so they didn't have a record of the transaction. I called first thing on Monday morning. The manager thanked me for my honesty, voided the transaction completely and pulled all of my credit card information out of the computer to re-do the transaction. She's mailing me the new receipt. So, no, I didn't get it for free!

ok I will bite and be honest, I probably would have just kept it and not called. How bad am I?

Bummer! Didn't they even offer anything? You could have just not called and I think they should have offered you something more off.

Nope -- nothing. But, really, why should I be rewarded for being honest? I just did what I felt was right, KWIM?

If there is anything in w/ the receipt, I will let you know. :) Edit: Got my receipt just now in the mail. Nothing. Oh well.

I agree. I would have done what you did. I don't mind a free gift when the person/store knows that they are doing it (for example the other night I inquired at our grocery about the "mystery coupon" and the cashier told me that it's in the paper but he'd give it to me anyway...eggs for a penny!) but I don't want to be sneaky or dishonest. :) And I know folks who've gotten "free" things before that cost a lot more than a marked-down fleece and didn't go tell. Go figure.

I would've done the same thing. I bet they'll send you a perk of some kind though I know that wasn't your motivation.

If I were already home, I wouldn't have called and it wouldn't have bothered me one bit. Am I a bad person? :(
