View Full Version : Am I the only one who thinks Hanna for non-baby boys is lame?

Is it just me, or does anyone else think Hanna for non-baby boys is boring and lame?? It's all solid colors or stripes, and boring ol' tees or polos that could come from everywhere. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know HA is great quality, but couldn't they come up with something a little better for little (but not baby) boys?? With DS over a year now, DH is revolting against him wearing a lot of the HA baby stuff (although I WILL get my way and get the By the Sea tee and cargo pants - solids only, definitely can't sell DH on the cute stripey ones) and there just aren't any "cute" options outside the newborn stuff. What do y'all think, am I missing something??

Nope, I don't think you are missing anything. I think the appeal runs out once boys outgrow the baby stage. I think the kids look cute in the Hanna polo shirts + khakis but the clothing is not exciting. Of course I only have a toddler so maybe kids only want to wear solids or sports themed clothing!

Well, my little Holden is almost 3 and he absolutely ADORES his love a bug pants and actually SQUEALED with excitement when he seen the crab pants and the BTS items!!

So I'll definitely be buying him some and DH always thinks he looks so cute (but then again, holden would look cute in a papersack, so who knows! LOL

The stripes can get kind of boring but their bright colors are better than what you'll find most other places. Last summer, my boys loved their striped boxy tees and solid sweatshorts. Also, a lot of their solid shorts have cool designs and come in more interesting colors than other places. If your dh is revolting now against the cute stripey pants and patterned shirts, you are in for a loooonnnngg time of stripes and polos and khakis. It's practically all that's out there (at Hanna or anywhere else) for older boys. Besides Hannas, we buy the boys' stuff at Lands' End (but lots of stripes here, too), MiniBoden, and Gymbo (but my oldest is almost out of their sizing now). It's a stripey world for out there for boys. :D

I just found out a week ago we're having a boy and dh already told me we've got enough things with stripes. I just started looking at HA boy stuff so I can't comment on that yet.

"It's a stripey world for out there for boys."

LOL! So true! The other alternatives are sports, trucks, skulls and monster-like stuff. Stripes don't seem so bad afterall!

I agree that the selection is lame. But I will say that I've ordered my Huey (age 4.5, Hanna size 110) some of the older boy stuff and it's wonderfully made, soft to wear, simple, classic and comfy. None of it is off the wall and fun like some of the cool stuff for girls, but I have found a bit that I like. I guess more than anything, I would buy an outfit for the comfort and quality. If I want something really fun for Huey, I'd have to look elsewhere. I like a clean and kind of preppy look on him these days, so Hanna, Lands End and LL Bean work for us. I like the fun stuff too (Miss Tee V Us, J&J, some Gymbo, Mullberribush, etc), but I can always find stuff I like at Hanna. Here are a few things that I'm considering for Huey from the new Spring releases.

And I've always thought this was such a cute look on the boys in the catalog, but I wasn't daring enough to try it on Huey. I might this year.

When Andrew first grew out of the 90's I was so sad because I did not think the boys stuff was that good, but now I love it. For many of the same reasons as Denise pointed out. When I go into stores like Nordstrom, Marshall Fields and other department and look in the toddler section for boys they have a few racks and most of that is sports or other themed stuff or the same blue tops and khaki pants or jeans. I always go back to Hanna and Janie and Jack for his stuff. I love Hanna's colors. I also like the softness of the Hanna stuff like yesterday he wore his polo jeans and I noticed he kept pulling at the button and zipper.

Yeh, maybe a bit lame, but that is how it is everywhere!! Boys clothes just do not compare to the lovely girls clothing out there! And when I think about it, that is how DH dresses as well. Lots of solids, stripes, and plaids! LOL But I do like the hannas...all sizes. The quality is amazing, and the colors actually look the same after a year of washing and wearing. I also hate all of the graphics that are on clothing for young boys, so I like the plain look. The designers out there just think that trucks, bugs, and baseballs are all they can put on a shirt for boys. Hanna is great for basics....solid Ts, khakis, sweats, tnecks, etc. And I feel like it won't go out of style, and will still be in great shape if I ever have baby #2. And, I have to add, everyhing looks so much better IRL than it does on the computer screen or in the catalog. Even those stripes look so nice and crisp! Yes, I am a hanna fan! LOL

I'd love to have a girl someday though, to put in those playdresses and leggings.....:)

I don't have a boy (well, young boy, anyway) but I've always thought that J&J has really cute stuff(definitely cuter than Gymboree). More than just stripes. This time around, I am definitely enjoying dressing my little girl!

I was just thinking that! I was looking through the bigger boys stuff even though DS is not at that stage yet and was completely unimpressed. I love HA for their cute baby boy stuff, but I think I may have to leave it behind once DS grows up. Or until I have a DD .... :-)

I'll second that. I'll take stripes over some vague "touchdown" or Spiderman on my son's clothes.

I don't like HA's clothes for older boys as much this year yet, although it seemed like last year more things came in later that were better. I want something besides red, white and blue (and olive green, blah)! At least Denise's boys are old enough to say what they like--I think that would be easier that trying to apply my late-30's female taste to toddler boys' clothes!

I think the Hanna stuff is cute until size 90. At 100s and up, it is pretty boring. It's worth it to me to buy a couple of solid-color good-quality knit shirts on sale from Hanna, but the boys stuff that starts at 100 really doesn't knock my socks off.

I am with you - I never saw the appeal of Hanna before I was pregnant with #2. I missed the Hanna boat with #1 as a baby, and then never saw what the big deal was since their toddler boys stuff looked much the same as every other store I shop in (mostly the Gap). I like the sales at the Gap and the great return policy. Also, because I am in Canada, I like that there is no customs, exorbitant shipping, exchange, etc. That having been said, I LOVE the baby stuff at Hanna and have already placed 2 orders for #2. Since I haven't used any of it yet, I don't know how it holds up. I might be converted to the older boys stuff too once I get a feel for the Hannas.
