View Full Version : Is it too early to start thinking about Easter?

This is my first year buying and Easter dress and I am curious as to what everyone's kids will be wearing. My poor DS I am sure will wear his usual outfit of Khaki's and some type of vest. But for DD its a whole different story. Easter is in March this year which means in NE where I live it will probably be cold - so little sleeveless things are out of the question - unless I get a cardigan too. I have not seen too much in stores that have screamed Easter to me yet though.

I love this outfit from J&J and now its on sale - but I wonder if I will find something else I love more that looks more "traditional" with smocking, etc. What do you think?

I don't think it's too early at all! I think that Gymbo and J&J will both come out with their Easter lines pretty soon since Easter is earlier this year. I really love the J&J outfit you posted. Could you go ahead and buy it and return it if you find something else? I think it would make a really pretty Easter outfit!

I live in the deep South but it will still be cold enough here to need a cardigan. I have a dress from Kelly's Kids from last year that they gave to me free because they screwed up big time on an order I placed. It is a pink gingham bishop dress with baskets smocked around the neck. Unless I find something else that blows me away, that will be her Easter dress this year. It's really pretty and I love the traditional style.

I really like that outfit too! I really haven't seen anything that screams Easter to me yet. I think I'll wait until Gymbo comes out with their new line, but I just saw this at Gap today. I really like it...it just may be our Easter dress!

Remember, Easter is really early this year, I think March 27th. I hope the designers do not try to foist sleeveless dresses on us as usual. And no, a cardigan will not work. Here in New England we'll still be in our winter coats and probably boots too. Maybe I shouldn't even bother getting white MJs...

The J&J dress is lovely. I've been eyeing some pretties in the new Orient Expressed catalog, great if you like smocking. And Macy's/Filene's/Lord & Taylor always have pretty dresses that are not too too expensive ($40 range) sometimes with matching coats. I believe Gymbo's Easter line is due out the week of Feb 7th or so. (Just in time for me to have my 16 week u/s on Feb 8th. Think pink!!)

I love that J&J outfit and think it's perfect for Easter, esp with the cardigan! I just saw it in the store this weekend and had to tear myself away from it, in fact!

It will be cold here too (N NJ) and I got Sophie a Baby Lulu romper and matching hat (long sleeves, long legs) on eBay. We are pretty casual and I think this will be dressy enough.

I guess if it becomes unseasonabley warm (hard to imagine today!) then I'll look at some dresses.

Keep us posted on what you decide!

Best,
Mary

Logan's birthday is on Good Friday this year, so you can bet I will be looking for an awesome dress that she can wear for her birthday, Easter and her 2 year pictures.

I don't know what I want yet, but I'll know it when I see it. I think I want smocking and a full skirt with a sheer overskirt and some satin, oh and a bow in the back. Totally all girled up all over! :)

It's never to early to think about Easter--esp. here at RL! :)

Normally I am not the biggest fan of TCP. However, last fall, they had a little video on their web site that showed a preview of their Easter line and it looked SUPER cute!

For us, unless something really grabs me, I am thinking of just using our Gymbo silver P&P dresses they wore for Christmas. Hey, they're festive. And yes, it should be still cold in the midwest for Easter. :(

I don't think it's too early at all. In fact, I was thinking about Easter before Christmas was even over. I'm about to post some pics of Andie in some new J&J and I just got her that blue dress and cardi that you asked about. I think it would make a beautiful Easter dress. If I don't find anything else that I love, I think that will be Andie's Easter dress. If I do find something else, well, then I'll just dress her up in it for no reason at all. :)

I bought this last year to use for Easter. Now I just need to get the matching sweater vest in an 80 or 90. Hanna is sold out of those sizes in last year's color, blue skies, but they show it available in Surf. I don't know if that's a totally new color, or if it's close enough to blue skies.

I'm thinking that there will be another Hanna catalog in the next month with Easter clothes.

Still new to the board ... but I wanted to jump in. I just realized that on Easter Sunday, I'm going to be in the hospital recovering from a C-section to deliver my new baby boy!

I'm so bummed! I've been looking at Easter clothes for a while now, and just ordered this dress for my daughter:

I was going to try to find some nice cornflower blue thing, maybe with a little smocking, for the new baby. But now they'll be all dressed up with nowhere to go ...

Pretty dress, Rachel. Is it from Orient Expressed?

Also, I have to ask, what is your daughter wearing in the avatar image? :)

I don't think it is too early. I've started looking too. I bought dd's Christmas dress in October, and Easter is just a little over two months away.

I'm also afraid that everything will be short sleeves. Most of the Christmas dresses were, so I'm sure they'll think nothing of designing s/s Easter dresses for spring.

Phoebe,

The dress is the "Blue Floral Liberty" dress from www.emilylacey.com. I've always really loved that ditsy Liberty floral fabric. It cost more than I generally like to spend (especially with a new baby coming), but we'll try to get as much wear out of it as we can; fortunately, my DD still loooves dresses and dressing up. It's a struggle to get her into a pair of jeans.

Regarding my avatar: my daughter and husband were on their way home from the circus, and he snapped a picture of her wearing a fake clown nose and fake orange clown "hair." I have cuter pics of her, but I somehow couldn't resist using this one. She looks so happy!

Rachel,

Grrr... thanks a LOT for that link. Now I have to buy EVERYTHING in the store! That dress is just beautiful. I may have to get it for Julia. Too bad that you'll miss Easter; hopefully she can wear the dress for James's Baptism if you do that or for her birthday. BTW, March 23 is my birthday. ;) Good luck!

I bought Mia's Easter dress last summer at Dillard's 70% off sale. Yes, Easter is early this year - on my birthday, March 27th!

Even though we'll freeze, she's wearing a coral/white gingham dress with spaghetti straps and a HUGE bow in the back. Now to find another dressy cardigan.

I'll keep an eye on TCP because they usually have coats that go with their dresses too and we can always use the Dillard's dress for photos. ;)

This is the dress I'm planning to get Kaitlin for Easter, unless I find something I like better. She can also wear it to her brother's baptism this summer.

I bought the same dress! I didn't get it for Easter, but I am so looking forward to dressing DD in it. I love how simple it is and the blue is just beautiful!

I got this from Gymbo last year for Easter, but in size 18-24 months. I'm pretty sure she won't be able to fit into it :( I was not familiar with Gymbo sizes back then and I thought they run huge based on some pants I got from Strawberry Patch line (12-18mo pants, still big on her btw...) :( At least I only paid around $13 on sale.:

Now I have a excuse for buying another dress :)

I hope people are thinking Easter! I've got a BUNCH of Eastery dresses to put on on eBay today or tomorrow! LOL

I had visions of smocking each of my girls dresses for Easter....but I don't think I'm going to have time! A has a sweet Cornelloki dress she can wear and M has a Carters Little Rose dress she can wear so maybe I'll make just G a smocked dress.... :D

Colleen,

I know, it's a lovely site, isn't it? I'll confess: I sprung for the matching American Girl dress! Molly and Kit will just have to fight over it.

As I mentioned in another thread, it's really hard to find pretty, old-fashioned dresses in size 8 and up, which Mary is wearing now. A girl turns six or seven and suddenly she's supposed to dress like a pre-teen! I saved all her smocked dresses thinking I might have another girl, but nope! :) Guess I'll have to try again.

I guess you don't know whether Jumping Bean is a boy or a girl yet, but you can always justify the purchase of clothes by assuming you'll get double wear out of it!

It is cute isn't it? Please post pics of your daughter in the Hanna blue skies and whatever you get her for Easter too.

Yeah, gymbo sizing drives me crazy - very inconsistent.
