Hi everyone! I wanted to ask the experts on this board a question...

DH, Ellie, and I are going to the Austin/San Marcos/San Antonio area for a few days. What are some good children's clothing stores there? I noticed that there is a Keedo in Austin and a House of Hatten store at the outlets in San Marcos. What else? I appreciate any advice! TIA!

Hi Jill!

I live in San Antonio and honestly, I can say you would do much much better spending your shopping time in Austin!!!! There are tons of cool stores in Austin! You should email Lydia (babymama) for the complete scoop! Austin has a very forward moving, eclectic, recycled-retro type climate!

The outlets in San Marcos are fun too but most of the stores are familiar faves.

San Antonio leaves MUCH to be desired - BUT if you are going to be in SA anyway, your best areas are Alamo Heights (It's a city within SA - just go down Broadway from Loop 410 toward downtown and you will hit AH and some cute stores with the better boutique brands!). Another nice upscale shopping area is the Quarry Center (off hwy 281 at Jones Maltsberger) The Quarry is mostly familiar stores (gap, old navy) but there are a few unique ones too. Plus there is a PFChangs there - yum!

At the mid-end of this year we will have a new shopping center that is supposed to be much more progressive - La Cantera - I can't wait!! They are going to have a Janie and Jack and possibly a Janeville.

Have a great visit!

One of my favorite online stores has a B&M store in Austin:

http://www.bestdressedkids.com

The Arboretum has a Janie & Jack, April Cornell, Baby Gap, and Gymboree: http://www.io.com/house/stores.html

There are tons of other cool stores near the Arboretum too, like the Container Store. :)

I'm sure the malls have kids stores.. Barton Creek and Highland Mall are the two big ones.

We didn't live in Austin when we had kids, but there are some other really fun stores for kids (and adults!):

Toy Joy - they have funky toys and also carried a lot of wooden toys too http://www.toyjoy.com/

Bookpeople - Huge, awesome bookstore http://www.bookpeople.com/

You can also visit the largest Whole Foods in the country.

*sigh* if it weren't so darn hot, we would have loved to move back to Austin!

There used to be another amazing children's bookstore called Toad Hall but I think it closed. :(

Be sure to have some Tex Mex.. try Chuy's. :)

In Austin I like lambs-e-divey in the shopping center at the intersection of Windsor and Expedition in Tarrytown.

Also Dragonsnaps and Terra Toys on South Congress.

In San Marcos the House of Hatten Outlet, Gap outlet, Oshkosh outlet, Strasburg outlet.

In San Antonio there is a cute boutique called Sugarplum Dreams but I can't remember how to get to it exactly.

I am very excited to hear that there will be J&J. I had been wondering if SA would get one.

Where is the Keedo in Austin?

Keedo is at the intersection of Anderson Lane and Burnett, where there's a Houston's restaurant. I believe Terra Toys is in the same shopping center also.

Other children clothing boutiques include:
The Chidren's Clothier in Davenport shopping cntr on Loop 360
(Baby Lulu and European lines)
Babes and Buckaroo on Bee Caves (2244) going toward Hwy 290/71

One of my favorites is Bright Beginnings in the shopping center at 360 and Bee Caves. I have found some great stuff there, and if you can hit them at sale time, even better. They have a cute line there called Mulberry Bush. For little boys it is fabulous, for once not the typical trains, cowboys, cars motifs. Very cute illustrations on the shirts.
