Hi All!

My best friend is getting married in July and is ISO flower girl dresses to match her bridal party and her wedding gown. She ordered the bridesmaids dresses through a designer, but the prices for the flower girl dresses are outrageous ($235).

Do you ladies have any ideas where I could help her find special occasion dresses for her flower girls (I think they would be in the older girls sizes, not toddlers, maybe 4-6x?) As I have a boy, I'm not too savvy on all the places to buy pretty dresses. She's really looking for a dress in silk dupioni (or a reasonable polyester look-alike...my wedding dress was made from a polyester (gasp!) that was treated to look like silk dupioni, so I know it's out there) Here's some pictures of the dresses that are too expensive so that you can get an idea of what she's looking at.

She's hoping for something in an off-white or cream, but I'm thinking she'll take what she can get...

TIA for all your help!

The ones you posted pics of are precious!

I received a catalog recently from Strasburg... they seem to be a popular maker of fancy kids clothes. here's a white silk dupioni one for $160 (still pricey IMO)
http://www.strasburgchildren.com/sildupdreshd.html. This one's cute too, but it's pink for $150: http://www.strasburgchildren.com/elpiduhd.html
Anyway... she can take a look at that site.

For less expensive options, I had recently seen tons of dressy dresses in mall stores (Children's Place, Macy's, etc) just before easter.... I wonder if she could find some left-overs off the rack.

I don't know of any other on-line sources (but I'm sure others will have suggestions) -- I've genearlly seen fancy kids' clothes in neighborhood boutiques.

Where does your friend live? Other posters may have suggestions for local places to look.

Janie & Jack has a really cute flowered silk dress in their Easter line which is on sale now for $40:

I think it would make a darling flower girl dress, but don't know how it matches her wedding stuff. Other than that, I'd check boutiques honestly, for traditional-style dresses, as I imagine you could find one cheaper there. Or look into having one made.

You may have her check into having them made.

I was going to suggest Janie and Jack, too! Can you buy the treated polyester and have them made?

Victoria Kids makes dresses that seem to be used alot for weddings, etc. They carry quite a few of them at www.bestdressedchild.com. I thought I also remembered seeing special occasion dresses in the summer Talbots catalog.

We went to a June wedding last year, and my 2 year old wore a dress from the childrens place that looks similar to the first one you posted. It was 9.99 on sale.

I would also suggest getting it made by a seamstress. I made my flower girl's dress for my wedding, the style was exactly like your first picture but all off-white and I used cotton. It took me one evening and an afternoon, easy sewing and I'm no seamstress, it looked adorable.

Here's another Janie and Jack (janieandjack.com, or check your local mall) dress - it's lace not silk but it reminds me of the first dress in your post. It's on sale for $34.99 and for now is still available up to 4T. I believe their dresses can run big so might fit a petite six-year-old.

TJ Maxx has some dresses in a cream silk by Laura Ashley. I think they were around $40. Also check out the Easter line at Children's Place. There were some white dresses with a pink sash that should be on sale, especially in places that were really cool on Easter.

You can also try www.bestdressedkids.com (kids instead of child as previously posted). It is a local store here in town where I get almost all of my special occasion stuff. I even got flowergirl dresses there.

Good luck!
