I've decided to get Charlie a birthday romper for his party...what better occasion for it, right? ;) I've narrowed it down to two and would appreciate your opinions. I have NEVER dressed Charlie like this so feel a little out of my element.

This one is by Cupcake Originals. Haven't read too much about this brand so I'm a little hesitant to order, especially given the price.

Initially I wasn't crazy about this one from Orient Expressed but it's growing on me. Maybe b/c it's also $20 cheaper, lol. I like the shade of blue much more but think that it looks dressier than the other outfit, and I'm not sure about the bubble. I wish there was a picture of it on a baby so I could get an idea of what it looked like on. What do you think?

Last question, the weather in early May can be very iffy and although I'd love for it to be warm, I'm not counting on it. Should I get a back-up outfit, just in case? As it is, I'll be spending a pretty penny on one romper. What would you do? Please, please help an indecisive mama.

Thanks, :)

I like the looks of the 2nd one MUCH better and I would pair it with some white dressy knee socks and white baby shoes or saddle shoes. You could pair it with a white cable cardigan, maybe from Hanna ANdersson?!

Thanks Jenn. I hadn't even thought of what to pair these up with. Actually with the first romper, I thought I'd keep his feet bare. Maybe that's too casual for his birthday? I picture him looking like a little like this...except holding onto a table or something, since he's not really standing on his own yet. ;)

I think that knee socks & shoes may be too dressy for the day. We're having the party at home w/food by Red, Hot & Blue....ribs, pulled chicken sandwiches, potato salad....so nothing fancy at all. Maybe it will have to be the first outfit, but I still have the dilemma of what to do if it's cooler. Ugh.

Thanks again,

I like the first one. He could wear it with fisherman type sandals or bare feet. Andrew wore a similar smocked outfit for his 1st birthday, but it red with fire engines on it.

I think the first one is going to give you the look you posted in the other pic. The second one is very cute, but dressier and looks like the legs are much shorter and more "bubble like" if that makes sense.

When is the big day?

Best,
Mary

Lori -- I like the OE one better, but some more suggestions:

I used the Bailey Boys birthday shortall for both boys this past year and loved it. Mason wore it with navy fisherman sandals, and Charlie wore it with a peter pan collared shirt and sandals too:

I also used this one-piece from Strasburg Children for Charlie's one year photos, and it is a beautiful piece -- just simple, classic, and boyish. I used white knee socks and Stride Rite "Parker" shoes to go with it.

Good luck! Love these outfits...

I know it's not one of the ones you posted, but I absolutely love the Bailey Boys one that Allison posted above. Otherwise, OE is always a great choice. Let us know what you decide. When my ds turned one, I was a member of these boards, but not active and he wore a plain ol' Samara jon-jon. : )

Thanks everyone. While the OE one is beautiful, it's out. Just not the look I'm going for. And the jury's still out on the Cupcake Originals....it just doesn't grab me.

Allison, I like the cupcake jon-jon but again, it doesn't grab me. Maybe in person would be a different story so I may order it...I do trust your taste. :) However, I LOVE the one from Strasburg Children. I had my mind set on a birthday romper but since I'm not finding one that I love, I may go w/something like that. There's a Strasburg Children relatively close to me, so I'm going to head over there tomorrow or Friday. All I know is that I need to get on the ball!

I'd still like Charlie to be barefoot. But if the weather is cooler, I guess I could get a cardigan & shoes for him to wear. Honestly though, I hate to spend money on shoes that will most likely only get worn once, and he's not even walking yet. Yes, I'm a cheapskate but that's not the reason I want him barefoot...I just love the look. :)

Mary, the party is May 7th but Charlie's birthday is the 6th. I can't believe that my baby will be one two weeks from Friday.

Lori -- Strasburg Children also has a birthday one-piece. It is at my local store -- might be at yours.

I saw that but I'm not as crazy about it as some of the other Strasburg pieces. Maybe it would be different on Charlie. Dumb question but do they let you try the clothes on your baby in the boutique?

Hi--I will start with YES I am a Kelly's Kids representative and I'm not trying to "push" my line on anyone but this boys romper is so cute on! My friend bought this for her birthday boy's first birthday --May 7th! Kelly's Kids is having FREE shipping right now so that's always a plus. I would call and check the status b/c if it's in stock they'll send it right out. The season ends on the 30th, so you should get it pretty quickly, but I'd call to make sure.

IF you decide on that romper, I'd love for you to put my rep # as your rep....if you don't already have one. No biggie if you don't want to....just thought I'd mention it...#110718

I know you said the OE one was out - but I just *had* to post pics of my DS in it :) It is more of a bubble which sounds like you don't like that style as much but my thought was no more bubbles after 1 year so I wanted to do the 1st birthday (photos & party) with a bubble. I paired it with the white Preschoolians (he is still not walking so I have not been to Stride Rite although I'm sure you could do some white walkers) & white socks. I thought the white knee socks was too dressy & just didn't look right on a baby still not walking so I opted for shorter white socks.

and so you can kinda get an idea what it is supposed to look like w/shoes & standing up

http://www.windsorpeak.com/dc/user_files/24628.jpg

also - I stripped my DS done for the cake festivities - just a diaper!

Thanks so much for posting pics, Steph. Griffin is adorable and now I'm leaning back towards the bubble....it's just so cute on. Hope you don't mind but now I have a bunch of questions. :)

What size did Griffin wear and how big was he? Gives me a better idea of what size Charlie would need if I did get it.

Did you pair a sweater w/it or was it warm enough w/out one?

Did you order directly from the website and if so, how long did it take?

Last, and I hate to ask this, but do you have any other pics of him in it that are closer-up? Don't have to post them....if you could just pm me and let me know, that would be great.

Thanks so much!

Lori, here is another one by Bailey Boys:

It's $48 and I think it's really cute and would look great with bare feet. :)

well, something VERY similar, exact same layout/color, except the smocking was 3 bunnies--And because it was considered "Easter" I got it at a discount, I think I paid little over 30 with shipping and all--I had to get 12M though because 18 M was sold out. It arrived yesterday and it's even better IRL than online. Can't wait for his bday :)

What size are you looking for? I have a romper similar to the 1st picture that I bought for my DS's first birthday in July in a 18M. But I'm leaning more toward getting something like the Bailey Boys jon jon, so I was thinking of selling it. It does not have the shirt underneath. PM me if you are interested and I can send you a pic.

I was also looking on ebay for birthday rompers and saw this cute one by Mulberry Street, it is more along the lines of the Bailey Boys one:
