DS will be a year old this summer and I am determined to vigilantly protect his beautiful skin! I of course have sunscreen and hats but I could use your help with the following:

1) Is there a truly lightweight cover-up with long sleeves and pants? I imagine he would roast on a really hot day. How do you dress your little ones?

2) What do babies wear in the water that DOESN'T LEAK? I've heard about disposable and washable swim diapers but would like to hear your opinions.

3) We have a pool and want it to be comforable for DS. Any idea how warm it needs to be?

4) We love to take long walks with our stroller and although there is a shade, it is NOT to protect him from the dangerous rays. Is there one out there that you would recommend?

TIA for your help!
Stephanie

1. One Step Ahead has some great cover ups that has SPF. I was planning to order one for my DD, but they didn't have the right size.

2. Don't know

3. Don't know

4. Protect A Bub has sunshades that do a great job at blocking the sun. I ordered mine on babycenter.com. It's kind of a pain to take on and off, but it you are looking for good protection, it definitely does the job!

Also, if you're looking for a really good sunscreen that chemically free, I just ordered Blue Lizard from my pharmacy. It's made in Austraila and is supposed to be one of the best.

Hi -- yes, I agree, Protect a Bub can shade the stroller, as can a Pepeny.

I use C-Wear suits from solartex.com. I love these. I pair them with Flaphappy sunhats and aquasocks, and my children never get burned. In Australia, the wisdom is more to cover up and stay out of the sun from 10-1 than to use sunscreen. I love the stuff I have received from Solartex.

Good luck!

1) haven't tried anything yet. We just use lots of sunscreen and limit time in the sun (My derm wants me to stay out of the sun, too, so it's not hard to limit, we just alternate between playing inside and outside constantly.) One Step Ahead sells some cover up clothing but I haven't heard anything IRL about it.

2) Well, swim dipes are not intended to catch pee, only poop. The disposable swim diapers don't have any real absorbancy (or they would balloon.) We had those last year but I hated them, impossible to get off when wet and fit weird. This year we got one of these:

There are lots of other washable swim dipes out there, check around. You will definitely get your money's worth.

He will wear it under trunks to cover more skin, and with "rashguard" shirt to cover most of his upper body. So really, only his head, lower arms and lower legs will be uncovered.

3) I usually filled our pool up most of the way and then added a big pot or two of hot water from the sink to warm it up. On super hot days DS seemed to like it cool.

4) Protect-a-bub or Ray shade.

1) I just got some fabric from solarveil and am making sunsuits for all three kiddos, but I think they also sell them. I decided on solarveil because is is so gauzy (is that even a word) and light, can be worn in the water and dries quickly plus with two layers it blocks like 90% of UV. solarveil.com has all the info

2)for swim diapers I like the washable type

3) depends on DS I have one that swims in ice water and one that likes it 82 degrees. But really when they are little they loose body heat pretty quick, so I would make it nice and toasty and hopefully you have a solar cover to conserve some of that heat.
