We're in the midst of training. Does this mean our days of rompers and the like are over? Should i ditch what i have while they are still fairly new (ie: Hanna's, Lands End, etc!)?

TIA!

I definitely think it's important not to use one-pieces during Potty Training or after. I think after being PTed your one-piece days are over. I, personally, like for my son to be able to pull his pants down and go when he feels the urge. He doesn't even tell me he has to go now, he just goes in to the bathroom and does it. I have gotten to where I prefer to use pull on elastic waist pants for him rather than flat front with zip; they aren't as cute, but are so much easier for him.

I haven't used any one piece outfits at all since potty training. I won't buy side zip or fussy belted pants, either. It is all about independence, isn't it? Return or sell what you can.

I have to agree with the others on this. It definitely makes it easier for him and you to not have to deal with snaps. Besides, once he gets the hang of it, he can go on his own.

It's great when S announces that she needs to go potty, walks over, pulls down her pants and underwear and does her thing - especially handy when I'm nursing the baby! (We have no bathroom downstairs, so we bought a potty to keep in the dining room).

DS has only a few one-piece outfits, mostly gifts from MIL who has good intentions but little experience with kids. They hardly ever get used. I still have to pull DS' pants down since he has yet to figure out how to do it on his own. It's just too much hassle. Overalls are OK now that DS has mastered waiting for the toilet/potty to be made available ;) but I can not stand unsnapping onesies.

longer than others to handle the mechanics even of elastic pants, underwear etc...my dd toilet trained pretty much in February at 2.5 and she still asks for help both going to the potty and getting her underwear on....

What brands of all elastic have you found that you like?

Talbots has some of the most easy fitting shorts and pants around. I love them for basics!!

Charlie Rocket--Babystyle is a good place to find these, and they have some on clearance now; I just found a pair of pants there for $16 + extra 20% off.

Hanna--also good, but the CRs fit my skinny boy better

LE climber pants are awesome for boys! They have them in shorts too.

For girls, use leggings and bike shorts (even under dresses).

Duing and after PTing DD I moved to two piece outfits only. Then about 6 weeks after she was trained it was Halloween. I had bought one of those one piece costumes for her and what a PAIN it was getting it on and off to help her potty! It definitely re-inforced that I had made the right decision to go with all 2 pieces!

We've just started PTing my DS who just turned two - his idea! Until now his basic summer outfit has been a t-shirt with short overalls. He adores his "short overall pants" and wants to wear a pair every day. I had been going to stock up on some for next year, but now I'm wondering... Will he be able to open those by himself next summer, or should I just forget about them for now? How old are most kids before they can manage overalls by themselves?

I love overalls/shortalls but have stopped buying them bc of potty training. Even after potty training, I think i might have to avoid them bc i can just envision DD in a publc restroom with her overalls on the icky bathroom floor as she goes to potty. Yuck.

I'll be the weirdo here and say that DS still wore one piece things after PT and still does sometimes and has been PT'ed for about 6 months now (although only overalls/jon-jon types not the rompers). 1/4 of the time, I'm in a rush, and pull them up anyway. When we started PT all of his wardrobe, literally, were gifts. I don't have the kind of budget to look a gift horse in the mouth, so I just got used to it.

And I know, we needed *a lot* of bottoms by the time he got his aim down. I couldn't be picky about the form. LOL.

What a mental image! Yikes!

On the other hand, DS removed his overalls today all by himself without any trouble, just slipped his arms through the straps... nowhere near a potty of course....;)

It does make sense that it's easier to have two-piece outfits but we still wear a few rompers. I just LOVE them and this is Matty's last summer(age-wise) for wearing them. I have to help him get his pants down and up anyway so, instead of pulling down pants, I'm unsnapping the crotch when necessary. It's no big deal to me and he still gets to where his cute rompers for a while longer. :) Come fall, I regretfully won't buy any more one-pieces ;( as he will be getting older and more able to handle his pants and underwear himself. If you like the rompers, I wouldn't necessarily get rid of them right away.
