I need to buy a dress for DD (who will be 2 and 11 months and on the upper end of the 3 size range) to go to a SUMMER wedding at the beginning of February. The wedding is in New Zealand (thus the summer-in-February thing), but we won't arrive there in time to shop there. Knowing the cousins in question, it won't be overwhelmingly formal, just dressy. Knowing DH, pink and frilly are both right out. That includes things you think aren't REALLY pink or REALLY frilly. He has a very sensitive pink/frill detector and a very insensitive "appropriate clothing" detector, so he'd happily take her in a T-shirt and shorts and say "But they're clean!" but he'll be tortured by something with a pink hem...

Try www.gagas.com!

This is a kids rental online store where you can find just about anything for a dressy or formal occasion. I used them with great success when DS was a ring bearer and I wanted a cute Eton suit without paying $60 or more! You rent for a 3 week time period.

Can you give an example of something (winter or summer) that would be the appropriate "level" of dressy? Are you thinking white sandals or tights and mary janes?

Talbots Kids might have some nice stuff out by then (they do cruisewear for adults and *I think* kids), BestDressedChild and CWDKids usually have some nice things year round with variety in styles.

You could also post on SWAP to see if anyone has something from last year that they were planning to sell in Spring that might work.

Good luck!

www.flowergirldresses.com has some cute ones that are pretty but not overly frilly! I say to heck with your DH! When will your little princess be able to dress like a princess again???? I am sure at first he'll think it's over the top but then when he sees her he'll thank you and think of the pictures you'll get!!!!

something clean and simple like this one in white or ivory

I've actually been looking for flower girl dresses for DD as I have a friend getting married next may. She wants Ivory and Blue, but here's some websites I've found:

http://ballerinacollection.com/
http://www.strasburgchildren.com/
http://www.onesmallchild.com/
http://www.waterlilykids.com/

The last one is probably my favorite because of their prices. And I'm like going gaga over this dress right now, http://www.waterlilykids.com/special_of_the_month.htm

But anyway, I hope you find something.

Sorry I couldn't answer yesterday; I can't do pictures from work. I was thinking a lot less dressy than most of the posters. It needs to be nice, but we're more in the white-sandals range than the patent-leather mary janes range. Like this Hanna Andersson dress would be great if I weren't worried about the fabric in the heat:

many folks don't like my preppy style, but if i had a girl... i think these are perfect. no pink, no frill, no lace, no bows, no poof, fun colors, dress up or down, fits for a long time (just gets shorter) so they would still work in the summer in the US, etc.

These are adorable and on sale:

DD had two of these lace sets last year. It looks like only the yellow one is available in your DD's size--we have that pattern and it is beautiful. (Practical too--the bloomers make it very play-friendly.)

You might have to call to see what they have in this, but it looks very sweet and comfortable.

Something else that might work would be to buy a more casual dress and pair it with eyelet bloomers.

We have this dress! My girlies are wearing for SIL's wedding next week. We looove it. I would think it'd be perfect for a summer OR winter wedding, honestly. It's very lightweight. I got it because it's too darn hot here in AZ for anything else, and SIL chose purple. We're planning on wearing a little white cardi if necessary.

Anyway, we're probably going to wear it for Easter (already had Christmas dresses), and it will be close to/if not 90 by then. I think it would be darling.

I would do a search for smocked bishop style dresses. Check on ebay. A lot of times they are worn once and sold for half the price. I bet you can find something really nice.
