DS is one today (yea!) and he has developed a bad habit of ripping off his bumpkins bibs while eating in the high chair. Can anyone recommend some good brand bibs that stay on - perhaps going over the head? I love Bumpkins but the velcro back allows for easy ripping off by the little guy. Thanks.

Go to an art supply or preschool/homeschool supply store and get art smocks. They cover everything, are usually water proof and usually tie on. They were the best when my dd was a toddler.

Durabibs by Dex AKA Sally Huss bibs are fabulous. They are about $4 at Walmart, have snaps behind the neck, and a large crumb catcher pocket. The pocket is large, deep, catches EVERYTHING, and unsnaps as well so the bib folds flat for washing. They are made from coated canvas so the mess doesn't soak through. I first read about them here, and after trying a few others, I have to agree there is no comparison.

Walmart doesn't sell them online, they are instore only. I have seen them online from other vendors for a higher price.

It definitely sounds like you need the tie-on kind. I saw vinyl bibs in the Oriental Trading kids crafts catalog but I don't remember if they were velcro or tie-back.
Here's also a past thread that might help you with your search:

These have a snap closure:

We have the ones from A Better Bib with the tie closure, but since the sleeves are just a thin fabric (not waterproof), spills would soak through to her clothes.

Thank you for your suggestions! First, I am going to try the Dex bib, I hope I have good luck with it. I think the snap closure should help alot. If that doesn't work well, we'll try something else, maybe a tie closure. I appreciate the help.

I like the Sally Huss bibs too, but we really love the Baby Bjorn molded plastic bibs. They stay on and catch every single crumb and dropped piece, and they wash easily in the sink.

Which Bumkins are you using? My DD used to rip her bib off and I got the one with short sleeves which, even if she opens the velcro, she really can't get it off while in her highchair.

I LOVE the Sally Huss bubs. They are wonderful. They have them at Walmart and Kmart.

I had the same problem with my dd. I used icky baby's bibs. they are velcro too, but it seemed to be stronger and would stay on

Update - I bought one of the Dex bibs and so far so good. DS has not even tried to rip it off for some reason and even if he tried, it won't come off because it has a snap closure. The bib is also great. So thanks everyone for the tip!
I did consider getting a different kind of Bumkins bib, maybe the short sleeved ones - we were using the regular style. But now I think I will use the Dex ones since I am having success with it.
