Hi,

What are your recommendations for the best way to sanitize toys (the hard plastic kind)? I heard that diluted bleach works well but don't know how much to dilute it to make it safe. Thanks!

Hi,

When my mother was the director of a child care center, they would clean the toys and changing tables with a 10:1 water and bleach solution (of course rinsing the toys well afterwards). I keep a bleach solution in a spray bottle and use it to clean my vinyl changing pad daily or after messy diapers.

If I really want to clean a toy I put it in the dishwasher. If I just want a quickie clean, I use a Clorox Wipe on it, or the Lysol disinfecting sprays. If I'm worried that my kids will mouth the toy after this I follow with a washcloth dipped in warm water.

Fabric toys can often go in the laundry machine. (but be careful of the soft books because they can lose their shape this way)

For our church nursery we use one Tablespoon bleach in one quart of water to kill germs. :) HTH!
