I have a question that I hope you can answer. Nathan has been having problems with formula and today we saw a GI doctor. Anyways he suggested trying to breastfeed Nathan. He called it relacation ( I could be wrong on this). What I'd like to know is if you know anything about this and do you think its possible or where I could look into this?

TIA

I'm not Rachel but I know that relaction is possible for many women. Here are a couple of articles that might be helpful:

Hope this helps!

Thanks Denise!!!!
I'll check those sites out. We have an appointment tomorrow with a lactation nurse at the hospital. I don't know if this is going to work but right now I am willing to try anything.

Hi, Norah! It's definitely possible, especially since Nathan is still so young. Relactation might really help you both, but it will take some work in the beginning. Keep in mind that hospital LCs are not always board-certified and not always all that helpful. You ae probably going to need the support of a private LC. I would begin by looking on www.lalecheleague.org for a leader near you. She may be willing to meet with you in person, or can direct you to a good LC. If you remind me where you live, I'd be glad to try to get some names for you. You might also search or post in the breastfeeding forums at www.mothering.com/discussions -- a lot of folks there have done successful relactation and even adoptive nursing! You'll need a lot of support as you get started, so call me anytime. Remember that it will get monumentally easier each week. Also, here are a few other links for you to read about relactation.

I really admire you for being willing to consider this. When I read your other post, I was feeling sorry that you weren't breastfeeding. I think that once you get the hang of it and your supply comes up, it will make a huge difference for Nathan. You're a wonderful mom.

Thanks Rachel. I live in Clearfield Utah. I think the nurse I called today might be board certified. The way she was talking I think she has helped others out in the same situation. I'm sure I'll be calling you for help. I only wish I'd taken your number with me to the hospital, I probably wouldn't have this problem now.
Thank you again.
