Question about Japanese hug bra

This might be a dumb question, do the cups entirely cover your boobs? I bought one, but I'm not sure if it fits right. There's some space between the band and the cups. Is it supposed to fit like that?
Does my description make sense??

I have the JW hugs bra. The cup should line up with the band for a proper fit. It's designed to be able to lift the cup up from the band to nurse, or pull the cup aside from the top.

The babystyle nursing bra is the same way. If the cups don't stay put against the band, perhaps the next size up would be more comfortable. babystyle doesn't allow for returns on their bras which is a bummer. I found their cups to be a tad smaller than the JW bras.
