i just bought one of these heating pads from target for $10. i've been using it on the breast that "might" have a plug (still haven't figured it out). it's much better than using a wet cloth that gets cold so quickly. it works really well, and it's definitely wet heat.

hopefully there are no negatives to using one of these.

I hope not! I used a heating pad for my last brush with mastitis, and I believe that it was much more effective than a wet cloth. The other thing that works well are the little packs that you microwave (mine came in a neck pillow). Mine molded so nicely around the problem area, and if (when) I fell asleep with it in place, it just cooled down on its own.

Just be careful, whether you use a plug in heating pad or a microwavable rice/grain bag. Breast skin is very thin and burns easily.

I fell asleep with a microwavable pad on my breast and rolled on top of it. I had many nice bright red patches on my breast the next day. I was wearing a thin t-shirt, so try to wear a thicker shirt.
