Fast flow nipple ?

Approx. what age would you start using fast flow nipples or what signs should I be looking for that it's time?

I used the Walmart brand (Parents Choice) silicone nipples and used the slow flow until about 4-5 months then switched over to the fast flow (those used to be labeled 6 months+ but are now labeled 0 months+). It seemed like DS was creating a vacuum on the nipple a lot and needed it to deliver more liquid. DS was formula-fed. For breast-fed babies I have heard you are supposed to always stick with slow-flow, but I don't have personal experience with that.
