First time ever and I'm pretty sure it's a blocked duct based on some quick web references. It's tender to touch, pimple-like, on the outer edge of my areola (sp?). My gf's advised to: nurse-often w/chin under the blockage if possible, warm compresses, rest (hah!) - anything else? Should I go see my midwife (she's a LC too)?

I am getting over a case of the sniffles and I was using Tyelenol Sinus (only acetaminophen & pseudoephedrine) - I wonder if there's a connection?

TIA

if you start to feel aches and lethargy, go to a dr. ASAP and get some meds. mastitis comes on fast after a blocked duct, and it feels like you got run over by a train!

the advice you have already gotten is right on- massage the area with the compress and nurse nurse nurse. try really hard to rest. i realize that is VERY difficult!

hope it clears up soon!

Take lecithin, 1200mg per day. Also, look at these links:

That is all excellent advice. The only other thing I do is try to massage the lump while DS in nursing - it seems to help it unplug faster. This is generally excruciating, so I sometimes put a warm heating pad on it and massage over that and/or have DH do it for me so I don't "wuss out" :) Good luck!
