There are a lot of choices out there when it comes to making yourself more comfy when you sleep. But not all the choices are cheap! I'm wondering what works best for y'all:
1. Ordinary pillows piled around your body
2. A body pillow
3. A "maternity pillow" like this one, which is a bit different than your average body pillow:

Or something else?
Thanks for your thoughts!

I'm glad you asked this question. It's been asked a few times in the lounge and it seems to be a question that doesn't have a standard answer. I guess it's a matter of preference.
But I'm dying for an answer because my hips and back are killing me, and I'm only in my 4th mth. I just don't remember sleeping being this painful the 1st time around until much later in the pregnancy! Anyway, I can't quite find any pillow or position that feels comfortable. I want to sleep on my back, but since you're not supposed to, I can't sleep without pain.
Anyway, I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I wanted you to know that everyone seems to be questioning this, and I'm hoping someone has some input.

I used a body pillow with DS #1. Hopefully it will work this time aroudnd too. I think the pillow are 10.00 at Bed,Bath and Beyond and then antoher 5.00 or 10.00 for the pillow case.

I also used a body pillow and it was perfect. I would kind of "hug" it, with it in between my legs and my arms around it. It was extremely helpful.
I imagine you could use lots of regular pillows too, and place them where they are needed, but it seemed like such a PITA to me...it was easier to have just one big pillow. Of course, we have a king size bed, so space was not an issue.
Hope you find something that works for you. That maternity pillow looks nice!!

I used a body pillow with DD#1 and this time I bought the Boppy Pregnancy pillow (snuggler or something like that) it's kind of oddly shaped, but is perfect!
I sleep on my left side, put that pillow between my knees and under my belly, and kind of roll onto my belly a bit. It takes the stacked pressure off my hips and shoulders and allows me to really get a great nights sleep. I will roll to my right side once during the night, but I don't usually get up to pee unless I keep rolling from side to side. I'm at 30 weeks and I'm surprised I'm not up all the time!

Here's yet another option, which looks quite appealing, even if the price is high: Snoogle Maternity Pillow

I used a body pillow last time and it worked great (although rolling over was quite a production). DH was happy when my "boyfriend" was no longer in the bed with us.
So far this pg, I'm making due with a king sized pillow. All 3! of my body pillows are in Nate's bed and I've not yet convinced him he needs to share one with mommy and the baby. Sadly, I may eventually have to buy another one...

I got one like this from Linen's and Things w/a washable suade cover and LOVE IT!!! It cost me a total $25.
Hi,
I bought the bed bath and beyond pillow yesterday, mainly because my hips were killing me the last few nights (i am 32 weeks prg). so, last night, no more hip pain, but I still woke up often, and it gets kind of hot in the bed with the big pillow - I would consider it an improvement, but not a great one (unless I haven't gotten the hang of it somehow - between the legs, kind of hug it?) - worth the $10 I paid, but not that much more.
regular extra pillows didn't do a thing for me.
In the end, if you are a back sleeper, maybe there just isn't much that can help - which leads me to another question: is sleeping on one's back really bad for all people? up until a few days ago, I would always turn in my sleep onto my back anyways and felt like I was sleeping much better that way.
I don't know that sleeping on your back is inherently bad, but my ob told me (actually in my pregnancy w/ DS last time), not to sleep on my back because the weight of your uterus can be too heavy on the veins or something underneath. She said not to panic if I roll onto my back, but not to stay that way all night and to roll onto my side if I was aware of it.

the maternity pillow i got from babies-r-us was a side and back saver. it was shaped like two wedges connected with velcro. one wedge went behind me and kept me from rolling over completely and the other wedge cradled my belly. i got it towards the end of my second tri-mester on a whim and was amazed it how much more comfortably i slept. in fact for two days in my third tri-mester i had to go without it after i washed it and i was miserable...my lower back and sides ached.
best of all it is still being used! the wedges were perfect as a source of slight incline on our baby's changing pad and crib mattress (which we needed for baby's reflux).
i bought the pillow in store, and they don't seem to have it online but i am posting a picture of something pretty close to it so that you can get the idea. THE ONLY THING IS THIS PRODUCT DOESN'T SEEM TO HAVE THE SECOND WEDGE...which to me is really important.

Well, I finally chose a pillow. I was going to get an ordinary body pillow. First I checked Wal-Mart and then Bed, Bath, & Beyond, but in both cases, the pillows were so soft, I didn't hardly have to put any pressure on them to flatten them. I like something at least a little more firm.
So, I decided to go with what I really thought would be more comfortable: A Snoogle. I went to www.froogle.com to get the cheapest price, but it was still about $50 with shipping. (I had also checked eBay, but found they go for retail price there.) I will let you know if I like this thing. At that price, I better!

I have the one in your link--the one from JC Penney--and I loved it. I tried the body pillows from Bed Bath and Beyond and they just didn't work for me. Unfortunately, I definitely think it's different for everyone. I slept with that maternity pillow and then a regular pillow between my legs and it worked pretty well.
I chose that after doing some research that seemed to suggest that if you were tall (which I am) and switched sides a lot (which I do) that the Snoogle might not be for you because it hit in the wrong place and I don't think it easily switches back and forth. Also the body pillow would have to be switched back and forth when you changed sides.
I used to always sleep on my front/side, which for obvious reasons I couldn't do! The maternity pillow kept me pretty well where I needed to be.
