View Full Version : Swimsuit for Mommy Bellies?

What kind of swimsuit do you all wear? I picked up a black one-piece Calvin Klein from Ross (it was only $20!), but my husband hated it. I was trying to hide my flabby belly, and didn't think he'd find the muffin-top bikini bottom too attractive... Anyway, the swimsuit went back to the store and now I have nothing. One of my friends suggested a tankini, but wouldn't my belly still hang out? Also, I don't want to spend a fortune, and I need it quick (going on vacation in 2 weeks). Any tips? Thanks!

Unfortunately I have more of a mommy butt and giant thighs, which there is no hiding in a bathing suit, but I also suffer from mommy belly, and I would recommend some of the Lands' End suits. Plus you can order a bunch and then return them to Sears instead of paying return shipping. I would recommend getting long torso in one-pieces and tankinis. I have a short torso, and the long torso was perfect. Regular was too short in the body in both the one-pieces and tankinis. The faille swimsuits are very soft, but to me, did not do anything for my mommy belly. Not enough support. I really liked the Beach Living separates, and the control tummy one-pieces. HTH!

I second the recommendation for Land's End - I have been working hard losing weight but still have a flabby tummy - hasn't quite shunken in yet. Anyway, I just got this halter style one piece and it holds everything in:

I actually can't wait to wear it somewhere! And DH thought it looked good too-he may not let me out of the house, hehe.

Even though the "tankini" style is in right now, this was a MUCH better choice for me!

Another vote for Lands End tankinis. They are amazing!

I was going to suggest Land's End tankinis, too. I really like the faille stuff. It really hides bumps and lumps better than their smooth fabrics. I just found a few mix and match pieces in their overstocks.

Another vote for LandsEnd tankinis (I get the long torso tops for extra coverage)and they have some good one piece control suits as well. I think the Sears stores with Landsend shops are carrying more of them this year so you could try some (I think their sizing is big) Glamour magazine has some this month and actually shows a real woman with mommy belly and some cute suits in all kinds.

On the topid of Lands End bathing suits. Do any of you find the bottoms annoying? I guess I am still used to standard bikini bottoms like these

the standard ones Lands End carrys are so wide on the sides

I plan to get a pair of womens board shorts to wear over the bottoms... found a great site with a ton of patterns and decent leg length.... not your junior size 3inch inseam!!!

The other thing for me is that I can't stand Halter tops and things tied around my neck. EVERYONE is making bathing suits with halter top/neck tie styles! It's so frustrating!

Thanks for the tips. Those Lands End suits are quite pricey, but since everyone seems to love them, I'll check them out. Is there any way to know whether my local Sears carries them?

I'd call Sears to find out. You can also check out the Overstocks section of the Land's End website. I tried suits on in person at Sears to find my size, then ordered from the Overstocks. It was much less expensive that way!
