DH works in the hospital where I am delivering and he knows A LOT of people throughout the OR and various floors d/t his position. He is expecting that a lot of people will probably be popping in to see us and the baby. I REALLY do not mind the visitors, as they will be brief, BUT I've never needed to look decent while in the hospital, as we've always lived away from family/friends when I've delivered (we've always been new to an area, not established, when I've delivered) and never had visitors other than my parents and DS. So...long explanation BUT any ideas for something cute to wear in the hospital? I would love to wear bottoms but am afraid with the contant exams/leakage that it wouldn't work. What do you think?

TIA!!

Cute AND immediately postpartum? Girlie, you crack me up.

Seriously, though. I honestly don't think that anybody in their right mind can expect a postpartum Mom to look like something out of a magazine while she's still in the hospital.

That aside, what about some of the cute separates at Old Navy or Target - stripey or patterned bottoms with a henley top. They're showing henleys with really long button plackets right now, so they would work just fine with BF. I wouldn't go spending a fortune on stuff that might get trashed, kwim?

I think that if you just brush your teeth, throw your hair in a ponytail (assuming it's long enough) and maybe put on some lipstick you'll already be ahead of the game. :)

I agree with the PP, I wouldn't spend too much on something that might get nasty. But what about a button down sleep shirt like this one: http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=237549&CategoryID=29620&LinkType=EverGreen

Or just a cute short robe or bed jacket to put on over your hospital gown. I think most people will understand that you just had the baby and won't care what you look like. Good Luck!

I didn't have time to look for a matching robe.

I also like the look of this motherwear outfit.

I haven't ordered from Hanes in years, but the stuff I had from there was pretty sturdy whereas the motherwear items I purchased recently don't look like they would hold up quite as well.

I would opt for a clean tshirt and a pair of Old Navy pajama pants/capris in a print that would hide any leaks. something in the red/black/navy/dark purple color spectrum!

I agree with the others.... people will understand you just had a baby and might not be looking your best!

Good Luck

Not a what to wear suggestion but if you want to look attractive immediately post-partum might work. As soon as I found out I was going to the hospital (woke up in a wet spot) to deliver DS, I got into the shower, washed and than blowdried my hair. I knew DH would be taking a ton of pictures of me and DS so I could not afford to mess it up, could I ;) ? Also, as I was nearing my due date, I made sure to get a pedicure. A friend of mine commented on both my hair and my pedi when she was visiting me in the hospital. And make sure to smile, it would light up any outfit.

Have a safe delivery and enjoy every moment of your stay in the hospital. You are so lucky to have many friends around.

I bought a nice robe (red satiny) at Target before I had DS and it was nice to put over the hospital gown. I had matching PJ's but never got around to getting out of the gown. The robe made me feel more human though!

Our hospital stay ended up being a little longer than planned last time since DD had to stay in the NICU a few days. I wore yoga/drawstring pants and a wrap top over my nursing bras. I had a monogrammed short robe when I was out wandering the halls.

Japanese Weekend has 30% off the sale prices of some nursing pajamas now. I just ordered a pair in black.

DD was born last week and I cannot stand wearing a hospital gown at all. I wore these (I have the set in a few colors...)

My cs was Friday so I was in the hospital gown following that, but the next day, I was in the hoody/yoga pants and very comfy. They never checked for bleeding after the first day - just looked at the incision, so it wasn't an issue with the pants. Good luck!

DS - 2
DD - brand spankin' new!

Kind of expensive, but maybe a treat for yourself?

I totally understand. I was looking for the same thing for after my second c-section. I bought some capris with matching top and robe in a busy flowery pattern in case i bled on them so it wouldn't be too noticeable. I also bought some long, romantic looking nightgowns and liked those best (I think I got them from Victoria's secret). They buttoned down the front so were comfortable for nursing but the nurses liked that they could still lift them to check my incision.

Oh, and I got a cutsy pair of fuzzy flip-flop slippers. They looked great with my pedicure. ;)

Thank you so much, ladies! I didn't even think about Old Navy bottoms. Yesterday I wandered into a store, while I was sans offspring, and found an awesome pair that would work ~ stretchy modal capris with a black and cream toile pattern!! These things are so stretchy that they actually fit me now! I am pairing the capris with my black Target nursing tank. Super comfy and if I have stains they will hopefully not show. Unfortunately, the fabric is thin so I am not sure how long they'll last BUT they are comfy and THAT is what matters. Now I just need to find a robe. I am planning on getting a pedi but I admittedly LOVE those super ugly hospital socks, since I am super clumsy, so we'll see about slippers.

I cannot THANK YOU enough for all of your AWESOME suggestions ~ there are so many cute options out there!! I really didn't expect to get so many responses considering the last thing on most new moms is looking decent in the hospital. :) ...Or so I thought... :)

THANK YOU!!!
