i want a tall, black boot to wear with short skirts and jeans and everything in between. the pair i have now have a TALL and chunky heel and square toe. they are old, dated and waaaaaay too high for mom-wear. what can i get to wear mostly when out without kids, but sometimes when they are with me at church, etc. i want heel (not the rugged boot look) but NOT stilletto!

This is exactly what I want! I've seen some really nice boots on all the usual sites - Zappos, Shoebuy, Piperlime and Endless to name a few, but now I'm completely overwhelmed. I'd be interested in hearing some suggestions! :-)

I just got these from Lands End:

Not sure if they fit the bill - they don't have a heel but aren't really rugged. I think they are going to be very versitile! Even though they look funny with my shorts. :-)

I like these from Banana Republic. They are the "Phoebe" style if the link doesn't take you directly.

The flat style like a riding boot is also popular

You can get tall boots with a low heel as opposed to a flat riding boot. Get one with a smooth sole (a leather one), not a lug sole.

Loved my Born boots last year. They had a heel but were so comfy I could even run in them a bit. The style was sold out early in the season, so I haven't been able to find a link to those.

Here is a style at garnet hill:

These are some similar styles at jjill this season:

I like the style of the "handsewn" model

I totally thought it was worth paying a bit more for Born because of the leather lining, quality of construction, sturdy sole, etc.

I saw some cute wedge heel ones the other day (sorry can't remember where). I always find I can wear a higher heel with wedges as I'm not "tottering".

These are cute too:

I'm really picky about my boots. They have to look good, slightly trendy and they have to last! I had a really hard time finding some that weren't heeled. My husband and I stopped in randomly one day at Burlington Coat Factory. After perusing the aisles, he picked out the PERFECT pair. The brand was "Wanted" and they were such a great price. I saw them in the closet recently and I'm looking forward to wearing them again this fall/winter!!! (it's been too warm for them out here in Cali)
