Measuring for Safeway gate WITH install. kit

The Safeway gate is for openings 43.5 inches wide -- anything wider and you need an extenstion. My space is just under 44.5 inches BUT I need to use an installation kit because one side will be attached to a staircase spindle. Does the kit add any thickness to the overall measurement, and if so, does it add enough that I don't need the extension kit for the gate?

The Kidco installation kit adds 0.75" on each side where you use it - so if you use two, you won't need an extention. We have two kits that we used to install the gate at the top of our stairs, and it went together pretty easily!
