Hi there. I just got back from tj maxx where I bought a Thomas train set (lift and load) that was on clearance for $100 (there are a couple of small chips and a dirty streak on the box that the set is housed in). Looking online, it retails for $399, but it was on sale for as low as $319.

It is a good deal, but I'm wondering if it is a good thing to have. First, it is a pretty big set. Although ds is home now, he will probably be in preschool for one or two days a week by the time he would use it. I SAH, and we use savings so I can do so, so I try to spend every penny carefully.

Also, I'm wondering about the fact that it is "thomas" and not more generic.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the overall value of this train set?

Well I'm jealous and just told DH that I wntt o go to TJMAX...if it is normally $399 then I'd think $100 is a great deal...I wouldn't worry that it is not so "generic" when our children are older and this set is passed down to other kids it will be a 'classic" I am certain :)...but I love wood toys and want a nice wooden one for Tristan...
