View Full Version : Teething toy?

Has anybody seen anything like this? Perhaps I have come up with an idea myself, but goodness knows how I would produce it...

Gman is teething like a fiend, and loves to chew on everything. His teething toys are SO stupid. They barely fit in his mouth. I understand that they don't want babies to swallow teething rings, but could they at least try to make them so that they might touch the hurting area??

So, this is what I was thinking. A stick, attached to a loop. Something so that he could get the nice cold action on the back of his gums, where he needs it, not too long so that he would gag himself, with a BIG loop handle that would stop him from shoving the whole thing in his mouth. Almost like a key, but just a stick. (Or even a key, I don't care, just something that works!)

Anybody? TIA!! :)

Gannona :)....Have me pee'ing in my pants...

I'm not certain Tristan is teething yet , but he seems to like the object that looks like a popcicle that you put in the fridge...

BUT as far as the 'stick" idea...Tristan loves the sticks (tongue depressors) from the ped's office...
Can you grab a bunch of those...he leaves there clutching thoughs sticks like they are worth their weight in gold. I've also found that when I remove him from his car seat not to put my keys in my mouth (which oddly I was doing)...he then wants those...grab a toy you want him to take-now I use the Ped sticks.

How about some of those plasic beads? Gosh, I got them at the supermarket, so I don't even know the brand. Nate seems pretty good at making the loop as big or small as he needs to get to the offending spot.

My sister uses rubber duckies. She has a whole lot of them in different sizes in the freezer and just keeps rotating through them. Never really struck DS's fancy and they end up big slobbery messes, but she swears by them.

This teething stuff is the pits!

I think sassy makes a stick type teether...not too sure!

There's a vibrating/massaging teether by The First Years that's on a stick. Whether Gannon could get it back into his mouth, I do not know. http://store.babycenter.com/product/feeding/pacifiers_and_teethers/3157

Also, the Twisty Star Water Teether by Munchkin also has the stick concept. http://store.babycenter.com/product/feeding/pacifiers_and_teethers/4618

Sassy has one designed for molars, the Multi-MAM Soothing Teether. http://store.babycenter.com/product/feeding/pacifiers_and_teethers/3500

The only other I can think of is the Super Yummy Teether by Discovery Toys. It has different textured heads on a stick. The only thing is, the handle isn't that long so I don't know how far back into the mouth it goes. http://www.discoverytoysinc.com/toys1f.htm

FWIW, I've found that DS is most relieved when chewing on ribbed bottle caps, such as those on water bottles or travel toiletry containers.

A mother in one of my Mommy/Baby groups was using a frozen carrot for a teether. Is this recommended? Obviously not without supervision...but since my baby doesn't even eat cereal yet, I wasn't sure about a carrot.

I give Nathan a frozen otter pop in the wrapper. When it defrosts I grab another and put that one back in the freezer.

I think this is made by Sassy??!?! but there is a fabric book with teething/rubber corners. DD loved that!
