View Full Version : Push walker with a way to "tighten" the wheels ?? (tile floors!!)

It seems that the most talked about push walkers are the Magical Activity Walker, the Little Tykes shopping cart, the Target wooden one, and the Radio Flyer. Does anyone know if any of these have a way to tighten the wheels so it won't go flying out of DS's hands with him landing in a "face plant" on our tile floor? Or maybe a walker isn't a great idea for us. I would just rather he have something to hold onto while starting to walk instead of trying to hold onto chairs, or anything else that could get away.

The Radio Walker Push Wagon has limiters on the back wheels so that it doesn't go flying out from under them. They are basically plastic pegs that you install when putting it together that put friction on the wheel spokes. It makes a soft click-click-click noise when pushed. DS uses it on our tile floor and they work great.

The Radio Flyer Walker Wagon did work wonderfully on our hardwood floors.

We also had a Little Tykes push walker thingy. Ick! DS did "face plant" with that, so it went to Mimi's house.

Just my two cents...

I just ordered the Parents Wooden Walker from Target.com. I'll let you know how it works on hard floors when I get it next week.

I just saw an ad for a new Little Tykes push walker that does have limiters on it - you might want to check that out.

I've read all the threads on push walkers and wagons but I'm even more confused. Need some help here. Declan LOVES standing but can not pull himself up yet. I don't need this right away, thinking Christmas.

I'm leaning towards the Parents Wooden or Radio Flyer. Like the idea that they can hold something (extra storage you know).

Or what about the FP Stride to Ride walker? Or the Little Tykes something or other that I now can't find to include the name.

How do all of these do on hardwood? Thanks!!!

allison, vicki answered this question for me in another thread. basically the target one isn't your best bet for hardwood (we have hardwood also). i think i'll buy a radio flyer one, because you can adjust it and it shouldn't go flying out on slick hardwood floors.

does this help?

Thanks. Which radio flyer are you going to get? There's the #12 Classic Walker Wagon or the #11 Walker Wagon.

Any thoughts on the FP Stride to Ride?

The place I heard someone else mention is Red Wagons. Here's the link to the walkers and toddler radio flyers...

in case you didn't see this in the bargain alert forum, check the ross near you. it has a big soft bumper and the 'no fly' wheel frictioners. it's beautifully made and rather heavy.

Those Radio Flyer walkers look AWESOME!!! I must say, looking at those, I have a bit of buyer's remorse about my Magical Activity Walker! It definitely speeds along too fast on the hardwood floors. DD now is using kitchen chairs as walkers (and that's working great for her since they have felt on the bottoms of the legs!).

Those Radio Flyers would be great for taking to the park...I'll have to think about that. Thanks for all the great info everyone!

I found a couple of the #420 with the shape sorter on Ebay and ended up winning one.

I went to Ross yesterday (in NoVa) and they didn't have these. Nor did they have any idea what I was talking about. Argh!

Allison,
I think DH and I have been to every freaking Ross in No Va looking for this. No dice. We did find a really cute radio flyer rocking horse and a scooter type thing at the Burke store. Those are the only radio flyer brand toys I've seen at Ross. I may go back to Burke to check again tomorrow, but otherwise I've pretty much given up. Please let me know if you find it!

Their warehouse is in Wisconsin, they did not charge me for taxes in Illinois. And it came in 2 days!

We just bought the stride to ride fisher price walker, and it "gets away" from our little one: so it's going back tomorrow! Was going to get the activity walker, but now I'll look for a Red Wagon with something on the wheels to slow it down. Anyone know if any Ross stores in Maryland have Radio Flyer listed earlier in this string? Thanks.

A website (I can't remember which one) suggested, when I was browsing for one myself, that you can put a wide rubberband around each wheel and that should add enough traction to slow it down. We haven't done this because we aren't having any trouble with DD's being too fast, and I don't know how easy it would be for her to get the rubberbands off, but it's a suggestion!
