We received this name train set as a gift for Ryan, and we have loved it! It's a little pricey, at $5 a letter...it adds up when you buy all the letters plus the engine and caboose.

I just recently discovered they sell the natural wood letters, engines and cabooses for 99 cents each at A.C.Moore! You have to paint them yourself, but what a bargain - we got Seth a train for $6!

Hope this helps someone!

Do they have the train pieces at Michaels too? I love this!

Yes they had the engine and a caboose and each letter, all unfinished. Each piece was 99 cents.

The last time I looked my Michael's was wiped out of a lot of the letters, but that's common for where I live.

What kind of paint would you use on these?

We just used the little bottles of craft paint that you can buy at Wal-Mart or any craft store for around 79 cents each. I think it's called acrylic paint or something like that!

Carmen,

Thanks for posting this! I have been wanting to get "THOMAS" but didn't want to dish out $30!

Glad it helped! I saw that you are collecting the Thomas the tank engine, too. My 2 year old ds seriously LIVES for Thomas. I'm not kidding when I say that is the only thing he ever plays with except books. And the only videos he ever wants to watch are Thomas. Needless to say, Thomas the tank engine has gotten quite a bit of our money!!

My point is to let you know that if you have an A.C.Moore crafts store in Raleigh, that they carry Thomas stuff. AND they honor Michaels coupons! Michaels runs a 40% off coupon almost every week and sometimes a 50% off coupon. We have bought a ton of Thomas stuff this way for great prices. I'm in NC also, but I can't remember if there is one in Raleigh or not.

Enjoy the THOMAS name train - they are sooo cute!

Carmen,

There IS one in Raleigh and also in Cary. I heard they carry Thomas but haven't been there in so long I forget - thanks for the reminder! BTW, I know Michael's accepts JoAnn coupons, so maybe A.C. Moore does as well. It's worth getting on JoAnn's mailing list just so that you can use the coupon at Michael's.

I'll be making an A.C. Moore trip this week just for the trains! Thanks again.
