I think I first posted this to the wrong forum, so here's my question:

I have some questions about high chairs. Is there a reason why I couldn't use a hook-on seat like this: http://www.babyage.com/product_details.asp?ProductID=406&cp=goog406
rather than a traditional high chair? I like the idea of this because it takes up no floor space and seems less cumbersome. But, being a first-time-mother, I have no idea if this would really work, so any insights you all can provide would be great!

This seems like it would be somewhat inconvenient for feeding. You'd never be able to face the baby and the mess would go all over your table.
If the goal is to save space, you might want to try something like a portable booster seat. I purchased this one at Burlington's Bbay Depot: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005LLQM/qid=1061684219/br=1-1/ref=br_lf_ba_1//102-1509213-9344145?v=glance&s=baby&n=547946

Even a simpler design, without the recline, would still work. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/detail/-/baby/B0000798L1/qid=1071217264/sr=2-2/ref=sr_2_2/102-1509213-9344145

I decided to go with something like this after researching this boards a lot for a small alternative to the highchair. Seats like these got rave reviews, both for use at home and for travel.

HTH!

I use something similar (the Inglesina hook-on) instead of a high chair and it has been fine. I use it on our breakfast bar, generally I sit next to him while feeding him, it hasn't seemed awkward. I bought it thinking I might ultimately get a high chair, but now don't think that we will.

Everyone will have a different opinion on this one. Can you use a seat like that? Sure you can! Will you want to do it all the time? That can only be determined by you. Do you have a booster or a hook on seat you could borrow to see if you like it? We had a booster seat that hooked onto a chair and had a tray on it and in the end, we decided to go with a regular high chair for several reasons. It made it easier for him to sit up with support. It had adjustable heights. It had a larger tray to catch messes and for me to set cups/bowls out of his reach. It had dishwasher safe removable trays for convenience. We're glad we bought the high chair, but it really isn't absolutely necessary.
