Hi,

I'm interested in simple high quality wooden blocks for a child around 1 year. I'd like to feel secure in letting baby chew on them. Also, interested in one or more simple balls for the same age. I would prefer no batteries required. I'd really appreciate your suggestions!

Thanks for your help!

I have the wooden blocks from PBK and I have been very happy with them. There are TONS more though. Check out these sites:

Also try doing a Yahoo search for "wooden blocks" or "wooden toys" and you'll find tons of stuff.

Edited to add: Just realized I didn't know if you meant wooden ABC blocks or the unit (building) blocks type toys. I have Melissa&Doug unit blocks and I've been very happy with those too. All the links still apply though, they sell both types.

We have a gertie ball and DS really enjoys it. They are fairly inexpensive. DS received Melissa & Doug wooden ABC blocks for his birthday and he likes them a lot. He plays with them ofetn and it is a favorite to play with during diaper changes. Definitely a great distraction toy. Good luck in finding what you want! :)

Hi,

I think wool balls are really cool too. Especially the ones with a bell inside. Unless of course you have a cat too.

I second the gertie ball and the Melissa and Doug ABC blocks. DD loves to look at the pictures on them, and she has gnawed on the corners many times and has been okay!

The O-Ball is another good one. If you look at the pics linked in my sig line, the pic of ds with his Santa gifts has an O-Ball in it (multi-colored sitting in front of the LeapStart Learning Table). It's great because it's easy to grab and lightweight.

Edited to say that the other balls in the picture are the Gertie Ball and the Nobby Gertie Ball. Here is a better pic (albeit a partial one) of the O-Ball.

Babystyle also has some ABC blocks that have adorable pictures on them. Aesthetically, they are one of my faves:)

I got a huge tub of natural color wood blocks at a yard sale for $2.00 :) I gave them a good soapy washing and presto, enough blocks to build a castle and then some!
