DS is turning 1 in March ( where does the time go) ??? Any gift suggestions?

My sister would like to get him a sandbox- he'll be about 15 months when he gets to use it- is this a good age? Would yourecommended a traditional sandbox like:

Turtle sandbox by little tikes:

Or bench?

I also need ideas for my gift and the grandparents ( price<$100). How about duplo?

He already has wood puzzles, a shape sorter, ball blast, and rollercoaster.

Thanks!!

Hi,

We got a frog sandbox before DS's first birthday (we have a picture of him with his 2 cousins in it from his birthday party) and he is still using it almost everyday (he is now 30 months old). We live in a slightly wooded area so a cover was a must to keep animals out of it when not in use. It is still in great shape, but we have it out on our porch, so it doesn't get hit by direct sunlight. If you have the room, a bigger one would be nice (like the dinosaur), since it gets a little crowded when DS has a friend or 2 over. If it is going to be in a sunny area, you may want to consider a wood one instead since the plastic does tend to fade and crack with exposure to sun. (I noticed a kit on amazon that looks kind of interesting.)

But all in all the sandbox is the one toy that has definitely kept DS's interest.

Other then that, for his 1st birthday he received the following that he still plays with:

the Little People zoo and airport (I think any of the little people sets are fun), the chicco castle pounder, megablocks piano (which is a little toy piano with megablocks inside), duplos, and the Parent Magazine busyblock playcenter.

Toys he received that he loved, but outgrew quickly:

vtech walker

Toys he received that he did not play with much:

leapfrog drum and leapfrog phonics railroad

Anyways, HTH,

DS has the Step 2 turtle sandbox. We currently have it inside filled with FP balls but it will be an outside sandbox soon! (or we may just get another one!) In any case, DS loves it!

I think Neve's idea for a train table is a great one. DS has a table and loves it. When his playmates come over, they all gather around the table and play with the trains and puzzles. It is a great thing!

A ball drop is a fun toy as well and one of DS's favorites. We have the Tomy ball party. They now have it at kids surplus. This toy has been a BIG hit with DS and any other child that comes over to play.
