I've been doing a lot of research on this board to decide what Kettler to get and I am confused about the safety pad accessory. I looked on mytoybox.com to see if there is a picture but I couldn't find one.

Can someone tell me how/where it is used on the trike and if it is important for a 1 year old?

TIA!

It's that little handle bar pad if I am not mistaken.
I bet many think it is a must...I am not convinced...
I guess I am glad that I have it due to possible teeth damage if you hit the handle bars...I think I'd get it...but I am interested if others have more info to add...

It might be in pics but just not so obvious...

It goes over the middle of the handle bars. I do not think it is a must have especially for an older child. I did order it though for my 1 year old. I figure I'd rather be on the saef side. Now I say not neccessarily for an older kid b/c they have better control than a young toddler. My older kids I doubt would ever lean as far forward and in a sudden stop they can better control their head flying forward, kwim? But my 1 year old will be pushed around a lot and I fear that he'll fall forward with his head and bang his teeth. I am also getting the tandem and I am sure he'll be getting rides on the bask seat from the older kids-so I'd want all the protection back there that I can give him!

I honestly think it's more for looks than safety. I can't imagine it would do much good on a tricycle. It's not like they'll be using it over mountain bike terrain.

This is going to sound really cheap- but we didn't get the pad I guess we forgot somehow. As we put DD on before she was 1 and she seemed a little unstable DH taped some 1 inch foam insulation for pipes that he had lying about. It fits perfectly and looks fine- saying that-she has NEVER fallen forward so far (touch wood!) and we've been over some really rocky rough terrain!
