Just bought the corn popper since he is starting to walk really well and it scares DS him to death. Is my kid the only one that freaks out over this? and is there some other simple push toy for a newly walking child? I've tried to get him interested for a few days- but when it "pops", so does he! I don't know if I should just return it or try again in a month.

DS likes the corn popper but he freaks out over some other things like the Little People Zoo and another toy we have with animal noises. Does he like music type toys? I know there is similar toy to the corn popper (I think by FP also) that makes music instead.

Here it is...it is called the Melody Push Chime. I think I have seen it at Wal-mart before.

The corn popper scared Colin for a while too, but he's gotten over it. It only REALLY scared him when he was doing it. He didn't mind us doing it, so we did it for awhile and he got used to it.

I think FP also has a toy that is a rolling musical cylinder. It's not nearly so scary (at least in my opinion :) ), and probably just as fun.

We have Push Along Thomas that plays the Thomas theme song when you push. It's very mellow and not annoying. My one complaint about it, though, is that DS removes the handle and then I have to reattach it. (It's supposed to come off so you can push it around on your hands and knees too). http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00004YSWR/104-3529647-9610330?v=glance

There also are wooden push toys that make a clicking sound when being pushed. http://www.koclicko.com/rcategory/jouets_a_tirer_et_a_pousser.html?LANG=en

we don't have one of those, but our DS has used one at a friend's house and it was ok, i think, because my friend's DS (who's a year older) was using it and it seemed "cool". our problem is with the FP Bounce & Giggle Kitty http://www.fisher-price.com/us/infanttoys/product.asp?s=bubrilliant&id=17826 - DS won't even go near it, and if he sees it near other toys won't play with them, either!

i've put it away for now, and will bring it back out in a month or two, and i can see that you thought to do the same with the popper - that might be your best bet.

Awwww, poor guy!

We have the popper and Anna couldn't care less about it until last week. She is obsessed with pushing things around (and I mean anything), so this toy is suddenly getting a lot of action. I think he'll be OK with it after some time passes.

It never scared her, but the vacuum cleaner and anything that remotely resembles a snake is another story. :)

If you have a swiffer, you can take out the middle two poles and screw the handle to the bottom pole to make it toddler size. If you have wood floors put a swiffer cloth on it, if you have carpet leave it bare so it glides. My son is the same age as yours and loves pushing that thing around.

I've have to see about finding the Melody Push Chime, I bet he'd like that! (But then I thought he'd like the popper too! :))

My son also has the Bounce and Giggle Puppy- and that took a while to have him warm up to. He got it for Christmas from my husband's boss, and when he went hysterical upon opening it for the first time I could have crawled under the chair from embarrassment. I don't think my DH's boss will buy him another gift, ever!
