With DS#1, we had a Precious Moments bouncer. It vibrated, had a silly toy bar he wasn't very interested in, (and was a pain to get on and off) but it sells for $19.99 and met our needs just fine. We generally used the bouncer to get him to relax, rather than to play, so I was never a big fan of all the toys/music/lights. We don't have it anymore, and I'm looking for a replacement. I know they still sell it, but any other ideas? All the Fisher-Price ones seem pricey and have too many gizmos.

We loved the FP Kick & Play. It does have a toy bar, but it comes off very easily. I think we paid about $24.99 for it?

I think on a quality-for-price ratio, the Fisher Price ones are the best you'll do. The Learning Patterns is $29 and gets rave reviews, as does the Kick and Play at $34.99. If you want to spend less, why don't you just get another Precious Moments? They have them online for $19.99 at babiesrus.com.

Hmmm, the Learning Patterns seems like more of a Rocker. Is it ok for a newborn? Does it still bounce?

Yes, it vibrates. From the reviews on BRU, it seems like parents like it, particularly because it is cost effective-- a bouncer for baby, that then turns into a rocker at toddler-time. The description:

This very cool rocker that’s designed to grow with kids from infants all the way up to 40 pound toddlers. For infants, it reclines, features a toy bar of dangly stuffed friends, and it vibrates. Like a good long car trip, a vibrating seat is bound to calm baby and possibly send him off to dreamland. As baby grows, the toy bar can be removed and the toys clipped on to the side. And as baby turns into kid, the backrest can be raised making the chair more of a regular rocker.
