Does anyone have the American Girl Bitty Baby? What is an appropriate age for this doll? I'm trying to compare what would be the best doll for an 18 month old - Corolle, American Girl or Cabbage Patch Kids? Thanks!!

I'm looking at a Corolle Suce Pouce to give Gabrielle for Christmas. She sucks her thumb just like G does! :D

I'm hoping someone else has some insight on this brand, since I've only seen them online! :D

We have 4 Corolle dolls for Mia, all Asian girls from baby to toddler in appearance and various sizes. They're holding up great and smell so yummy... like vanilla. I ordered all of mine online but can find them at some of the fancier toy "boutiques" around town for about the same price, just not Asian.

Kimberly, what Asian Corolle dolls do you have? I'm looking for Asian dolls for Maya. We have a Corolle one that's not Asian and Maya just starts to show interest in her. The vanilla does smell yummy!!

Thanks a lot!

My 18 month old DD has a Corolle doll, and she just loves her. It was given to her as a gift, so I don't know if it's a particular one. But, it's small enough for her to easily carry around, put in her doll stroller and high chair, etc. Also, it is kind of "loppy," I think filled with a bean-type substance, so it's easy for her to get a grip on. And, I love the way it smells!

I really like the Corolle dolls. My DD got the Babipouce doll last Christmas- it's really soft and huggable and smells like vanilla. I just bought the Poupette doll at Tuesday Morning for her Birthday. I think she will really like it b/c she can comb her hair and change her clothes. This doll is for 18 mos. and up. They have a good selection of Corolle dolls at:

We just gave DD a doll for her first bday. We gave her a Corolle Tidoo doll. I think it is a perfect first doll. The body is soft, the doll is machine washable and floats in the tub!

www.kidsurplus.com has a great selection at good prices

We have a couple Corolle dolls and they are our favorite baby dolls. Both the girls have the Calin dolls (12 inches, soft body, smell like yummy vanilla)--they each received them as a 1st birthday present from Nana. We also bought the mini-Calin as a gift to Kathleen from Ellen when Ellen was born. We also have the diaper bag and some of the clothes. And I have a Babipouce doll waiting in the wings for either of the girls for Christmas (bought at ZB when they went out of biz).

I think liveandlearn.com has the best selection of Corolle dolls online. These are the best dolls for small toddlers IMO because of how soft and bean-bag they are.

Kate, I got all 3 of mine from http://www.chinasprout.com at various times during the wait for Mia's referral. We have two of the small mini Calin dolls and (my favorite) the 2003 version of the Calin Yang doll. I want Kim Pink but $70 is pretty steep when Mia doesn't really play with her dolls too much yet.

Non-Corolle we have the soft Ling doll by Russ that I got at Chinasprout (Ling's friend, Nicki, will be a birthday gift), an Asian Cabbage Patch Kid I got on eBay shipped from Australia (yikes!) and a "regular" Asian Cabbage Patch baby that came in a Moses-style basket from ToysRUs.

I wrote to the Pleasant Company about a Chinese American Girl doll and got a form letter back about how they put years of research into their dolls, blah, blah, blah and how would I like to buy their Spring Pearl "Girls of Many Lands" doll? Well, I got it during their 50% off sale and she's still only $25. That's a Christmas present all put away, as well as the book, which I read and enjoyed. :) I'd like Bitty Baby but the Asian version just doesn't look Asian enough for me, if you know what I mean.

Oh, and I have the Disney Mulan Barbie-style doll, the Princess of China Barbie, and the Barbie we received at The White Swan in Guangzhou - she's a Caucasian mom with a Chinese baby. Those all sit on a shelf in their boxes. Ballerina Mulan will join them after the holiday season also - a Disney online store clearance item Mom couldn't resist.

Did I mention that Mia likes the cheap stuffed Elmo doll I bought her at Wal*mart better than any of her other dolls? ::sigh::

I'm the corolle dolly fan we have a few{ok TOO many ;) } We have them going from 8in right on up to the 20in size and even the tido{i think i missed a letter there but point made LOL} bath baby one, she floats in the bathtub :D

Although i do love CPK, i still have mine from when i was a kid :P but the corolle are so appealing i don't know whether i'll bother to add any CPK....our corolle have been washed and very much loved over the years, my eldest dd got her first one at 2.5yrs old so we've had them for quite a few years now..been very impressed with their durability.

I get mine from here

If that doesn't work http://www.mastermindtoys.com and go to corolle listed under brands.

Thanks everyone! I think I'm going to get a Corolle. Now I just have to decide which one - Calin Charming, Calin Mischievous, or Tidoo (I want blue eyes since she has blue eyes) I think I like Charming and Tidoo best. WDYT? I'm sure she'd like either one.
BTW this place seems to have cheap prices on Corolle:

Just wanted to say that TJ Maxx sometimes have Corolle dolls...I got Tidoo and Mini-Calin, plus outfits for Poupette there for a good price (I can't remember for sure, but Tidoo was 10-12 dollars). I have also seen Babypouce (spelling?) once, and I am kicking myself for not getting it.

I'm trying to decide on a first baby doll for dd's 1st birthday in less than 10 days and had only considered one of the Madame Alexander Huggums dolls until reading this post about Corolle. How do they compare or is it just a personal preference? I haven't bought anything yet, so your opinions are appreciated!! Thanks!!

I think it's personal preference. My sisters and I each received the Madame Alexander Victoria doll for our first Christmas and I planned to do the same for Mia but I'm undecided now because there's no Asian version of Victoria (not that all of her dolls have to be Asian) and I like the Corolle dolls so much.

All three of us still have our Victorias and they could all be passed down to our kids. They're in great shape and took a real beating - my Vic is missing fingers from a dog chewing - but they're also 30+ years old and I don't know anything about the newer versions.

Good luck!

We have both really it's more of a personal thing as you said i'm sure both would be nice. What is fun about tidoo is the ability to have a bath, my dd even takes hers into their kiddypool so she can "swim" the tidoo is a bit lighter too because of it's special quick-drying filling.

good luck! :)

We have both a Corolle and a Madame Alexander Huggums. My parents gave us the Huggums as a shower gift before DD was born. We didn't know we were having a girl, but my sister and I both had a Huggums and loved them, so we knew we wanted the baby (either gender!) to have one, too. I also had a Victoria when I was growing up, and still have her. She was my constant companion, and went everywhere with me when I was a little girl. I suspect my parents will give DD her own "Vicky" (Victoria) before too long. If they don't, we will probably get her one ourselves when she is turns two.

I like both the Corolle and Huggums, and I'm glad we have both. The Corolle (don't know which we have, as she was a gift to DD) is easier for a young toddler to carry around, I think, due to her "floppiness." But, DD is really getting into her Huggums now, at 18 months, and likes to undress her. She can't make her "cry" yet, but loves it when we do! I don't think you can go wrong with either doll!

Wow, what a great collection!!! You should take a picture of Mia with all of her Asian dolls. That would be super cute :)

I got Ling for Maya a while ago, but the one I received had a dirty face and the material attracts dog hair like crazy, so I had to return it. Pink Kim is my favorite too. Live and Learn has Asian Kim for $49.95. Love love her sweet face! Although I really like her, I don't think she will look this nice after spending a few days with Maya!

After browsing for Asian dolls for a few hours yesterday, I stumbled upon an older Asian Poupette (Lili, 2002), which IMO is cuter than the current one (Yoyo). She is going to be Maya's first Asian doll :)

Thank you for sharing your doll collection!!

another one to consider for your collection is the lakeshore learning asian girl doll. http://tinyurl.com/5kzub she is *very sturdy* & posable with thick lustrous hair.

Thank y'all for the input!! I did decide to order a MA - the Honey Pie Huggable Huggums - for dd's 1st b-day this Saturday (where has the year gone?). The doll is so sweet...I can't wait to see dd's expression when she opens the precious box in which the doll came carefully wrapped!

P.S. I must put in another plug for babycatalog.com (no affiliation), as I ordered the doll on Monday afternoon and it arrived on Wednesday!! By the way, they have free delivery on all the MA dolls.
