I know I've heard of but cannot find any monitors that allow the parent to push a button and talk into their end so the baby can hear it. Anyone know of any??

Ok, it looks like both Evenflo and Fisher Price made them - but are now discontinued. Here's one by Safety 1st:

Our Philips monitor (don't remember the model) has this feature. I have to say we've never used it, though.

i have the older evenflo one, a hand-me-down from a friend. i think it's worth scouting out on eBay. we did use it a fair amount right after coming home, i would say i needed something, DH downstairs could use the intercom to ask me specifics, etc. another great feature is it has a battery as well, so i can unplug it and take it with me if i have to do an emergency dog-to-the-curb run for a minute. and the reception is astonishingly good (better than cingular wireless, it seems) -- it works even 2 floors down in the underground garage.

I have the Philips monitor with this feature. It works great, no static or feedback. We had tried the Saftey First model and it was terrible! The was lots of static and one day when my DS was down in his crib someone came through speaking Spanish! We haven't had any problems with the Philips model though. You can buy it at Discovery Channel Store and I think I have seen it at Pottery Barn kids.
