We have a pretty big toy room for Tristan and sadly it already filled with what I call "stations" of places and surfaces to play. It is the size of a three car garage and I can not justify to take over the home anymore than this room...

So my situation...I want a lego table, or a lego "station" of sorts.
I remember recently a nice Lego table being discussed at one of the wholesale clubs (forgot which one). but I am wondering if anyone can advise on getting the plastic mats and using them on an established train table. I was actually thinking about cutting out a piece of wood the size of te train table, glueing these things on there and inserting it on our train table when Legos are the activity of choice. This would also enable me to move it to the floor if that is where the children would want to play.

I'm of course thinking in terms of the children that are joining us in a few months, since Legos are probably right up their ally at that age we are seeking.

I just can't justify another "table top" in this room...
Any advice on this?????
Also where do you get these lego mats????

Neve one idea would be to get an unfinished wood door, add legs and have a larger activity table and make one end of it for Legos. My DH did this when I wanted a larger size table for Rokenbok.

FWIW it seems like my boys have always preferred to play Legos on the floor. You just end up accumulating *so* many and they seem to like to spread them all out and play with them.

BTW, I still owe you a note but just haven't sat down to do it - will this week!

Neve -

We are considering an under bed train table for DS. DS has lots of floor space and I am dreading adding to the clutter as he loves trains and cars. I'm trying to get DH to build unit as I'd like to customize the storage aspect and avoid the loud colors that are predominant in preschool decorating. I'm thinking that the entire unit would be the size of a twin bed with 2/3 of that being the train space and then the other 1/3 divided with partitions to hold *parts*. I think this type of plan would work with Legos too. Anyhoo, here's two links to the type of table we're looking at! HTH!

My oldest son is 12 and is still into Legos. He even competes from time to time in Lego competitions (who knew they could almost make it a sport?) Anyway, he and his buddies prefer to assemble legos on a flat surface without the lego "nubs" to keep the legos in place. A regular coffee table seems to work just fine. However he does have a tray table (like a breakfast-in-bed tray) that has lego nubs, and he also likes that for little projects.
