DS is obsessed in the shape sorter on his Discover Sound Kitchen. It's pretty junk though, each hole can accomodate all the shapes. Can anyone recommend a good one their child loves?

TIA!

We have this activity cube. It's got a shape-sorter on one side. We received this as a gift, and it is definitely one of Alex's favorite toys. I rarely see anything like this mentioned here, but for us, it is a definite winner. The only thing I suggest is not putting the batteries in. The music it makes (one side has push buttons that play various songs and noises) is absolutely awful. But there are tons of other activities on the other sides. I think maybe people are turned off by the name "electronic."

We also have a Little Tikes bus that has different "people" that are in different shapes. So the shaped people fit in the bus and sit there. It's kind of hard to explain and I can't find a picture. He is not nearly as interested in it. Maybe because the pieces don't drop all the way through.

DS has an elephant shape sorter (by Infantino Maybe!) and it's pretty cute. There are 5 shapes and if you push on the ears, the shapes shoot out of the trunk. He also has a square Playskool shape sorter that we picked up at Stop + Shop which has lots of shapes.

We have the fisher price Billiant Basics one...

She still loves it, both sorting and just taking the top off putting them in and du,ping them out. Can't be beat for $6.

I also (I mean DD!) like this one. There are only three shapes which seems to be a good amount for younger toddlers. Also, DD loves dumping them, putting them in, taking the lid on and off, etc. It's a classic, and for good reason!!

We have this one too. Is your DD dumping them over her head? That's what DS does with 'em. We fill it up, he dumps them over his head, we tell him to fill it up, he does it and dumps again!

We also received a Lego shape sorter for DS's birthday. It's very similar to the Fisher Price version. He likes that container better because it fits over his head like a hat :) Plus, the shapes are somewhat stackable, though they don't fit really tightly together like normal Legos. He's very into making pieces fit together right now (stacking cups are key).

LOL, no she doesn't do that :-). She did try to balance the bucket on her head but that didn't work very well! The Lego one sounds really cool though, especially since it could fit on her head!!

Heather - hahahhahaha that is so funny that you said that because she does fill it up and dumps it over the back of her head and then she laughs.

We have this one by Tolo:

We like this one because each shape also rattles. We found it an TJ Maxx; don't know if you have one near you though....

If you do a Google or Froogle search, you should be able to find some online vendors.

We have a Little Tikes Aquarium sorter -- the "fish" pieces are different shapes. It's about 4 years old (got it for DS#1), so I'm not sure they are still making it any more, but DS#2 seems to like it.

We have this wooden one. DD likes it, but it is very challenging for a baby. She's 21 months and is able to accurately put about 1/3 to 1/2 of the pieces in the proper holes. I even have to really look at some of the pieces. Overall, though, I think it's been good for her.

The FP one was popular when my son was younger but later on he prefered the one that Discovery Toys offered (it kind of looks like a triangular shaped suitcase and has approximately 10-12 different shapes).
