I've finally decided to give up my plan to have a real dining room and use this space as a downstairs play area. Now I need a nice cushy rug to protect my hardwoods when DS runs his trucks across them. I just don't want to spend $300 or more on a rug that will soon have playdough matted into it! At the same time, I want the room to look fairly nice becaus it is the first thing you see when you walk through the front door. Any suggestions??

LOL - I just decorated our dining room as a playroom and I am looking for an inexpensive rug to protect our hardwoods as well! I'll let you know if I find anything and hope somebody else has some suggestions...

I recently ordered two rugs from this store:
http://www.millsriver.com/
The website is horrible -- I think they are redoing it. But, you can request a catalog to see what they have and their prices. I thought they were pretty reasonable.

When I get the rugs, I can let you know what they are like.

Claire Murray rugs are pretty cute. They go on sale from time to time. There is a website - possibly clairemurray.com

=)

Depending on what size you want, you can get really cheap area rugs at Home Depot, Lowes, Menards, Fleet Farm (Midwest stores). Online, you can check out
http://www.homedecorators.com/ and go to rugs section. Tons of rugs... Some reasonable price.

I bought a 9 1/2 by 7 1/2 rug for about $140.00 from Green Front. http://www.greenfront.com/ I don't know what they have available online, but they have a HUGE selection of rugs at their stores. The rug I have is mainly blue & cream and has fruit all over it. And at this price, I won't freak out when things are spilled or mashed into it.
