O.k. everyone, time to post your DS/DD's age(s) and current favorite toys! We've done this in the past, so I thought I'd start things for this season since people are already posting about holiday toys...I found this to be a BIG help last year, because I knew what toys DD might be interested in a few months down the line.

I'll start--DD is 19 months

Her current big favorites are:
Little People Animal Sounds Farm
Little People Farmers Market Set (Car and person)
Megablocks (she has the Cinderella set)
Wood puzzles
Little Tykes Push 'n Ride Racer
Silk scarves (not a real toy I know, but she LOVES to play with them...)
Sets of interlocking small foam 3"x3" squares (like the big playmats) with shape cutouts (think foam shape shorter)--found at the Everythings $1 store of all places; they make great building "blocks" too!

Still holding interest since last Christmas:
Leap Frog Activity Table
Small World Toys Busy Box

TIA,
Jennifer

DS is 26 months. His favorites are:

Anything Thomas (trains, track, accessories, puzzles, DVDs, books)

Anything Sports-Related (batting tee, bat & ball; soccer ball and pop-up goal; basketball goal and basketball; micro footballs; golf clubs)

Puzzles! DS is a puzzle maniac. He has mastered the wooden puzzles with 1 piece per shape. He likes jigsaw puzzles or inlaid wooden puzzles. Also, the Lauri crepe rubber puzzles are a hit. He can do 4-9 piece jigsaw puzzles by himself. He can do up to 25 piece puzzles with some assistance from me.

Board Games. DS's favorite is Memory. He also likes Don't Wake Up Daddy. We play modified versions of these.

Felt Board and Felt Pieces

Mega Blocks

Crayola Color Wonder Items

Play Doh and Accessories

Doll Stroller. DS loves pushing this around. We take walks outside with him pushing it down the sidewalk.

Matchbox Cars

Stickers! Tubs of stickers and sticker books are a big hit.

Magnets. DS has a few magnet books that he loves.

Books. DS is starting to transition from board books to hardback books with more of a story. His current faves are Hairy Maclary books and Curious George books. He also likes books that involve trucks, construction, trains, firetrucks or sports. He also still enjoys board books that are identification-type books, like DK Publishing's My First ABC Book.

DS is 14 months.

I was just thinking the other day that our best "toy" purchase has been our storage cube and bins, because he really likes pulling the bins out and taking the toys out of the bins and carrying them around.

That said, the favorite toys are:

cars, trucks--we have a variety, including a great little tikes dump truck that we've filled w/ blocks.
ball pit balls, used to be in the pack and play, now we have 5 or 10 in one of the toy bins.
a house-shaped shape sorter that also has doors that open with big keys
peek a blocks--we just have a dozen in a shoebox, he does like these now but we have a big set of wooden blocks that he's starting to be interested in.
Radio Flyer ride-on toy
stuffed bear
board books--loves to take them off the shelve and turn the pages
little tikes hammer that makes a boing noise

My DD is 5 months and has some favorites but I would love to see what older babies love since I'm trying to figure out what to put on her Christmas wish list

Fisher Price Deluxe Jumperoo (got it when I saw a review here) she loves to jump up and down but have to limit to 15 minutes or gets overstimulated
taggies book - she's into labels
cloth books - yummy
teething blanket from Munchkins
spin and click teething ring from Baby Einstein
lamaze stroll along puppy - we attach to her linkadoos take a long swing to keep her occupied
lamaze worm
lamaze clutch cube - we make it disappear every few days because she gets bored with it
she's weaning off the tiny love activity gym but still loves playing with the hanging toys but she's rolling back and forth and crawling backwards so she's off that mat in couple minutes
linkadoos toys and rings - yummy
kick and play bouncer - started to like it at 3 months and it's a hit and miss - she rather roll and crawl around
assorted plush

DD will be almost 8 months by Christmas so any suggestions for that age and older for toys would be greatly appreciated!

thanks
Katherine

DS just turned 8 months

Starting around 6 months I gave him an O-ball and he likes to turn and examine it.

Bubbles (I also practice signing "more" and "bubbles" with him when we do this)

Household items-whisk, pots/pans and a spoon, a small vinyl retractable tape measure that I have, shaking plastic bags...LOL. He likes containers filled with household items that he can shake.

Board books-Sandra Boynton, Goodnight Moon, Dr. Seuss

He still plays with various rattles

We have quite a few toys but these are what he spends most of his day playing. He isn't crawling yet (trying very hard!!!) but he pushes back 1-2 paces and he pivots quickly in a circle. He hasn't mastered forward yet though. I'm trying to get my rest while I can....I know chasing him around the house is coming very soon!

I'm not much help as DS just isn't into his toys as much as things around the house.... I guess that is pretty common ;)

DD is 7 months today!!

Her favorite toys:

Leapfrog learning table
FP Classical chorus singing stars gym
Exersaucer
Jumperoo
LF discovery ball
Peek-a-Block press and go train
Sassy stacking cups - the cheapest toy, but she never seems to get tired of it
Cloth books
Newsweek - she loves tearing pages off the magazines

Just got her LF hug and learn Baby Tad for our upcoming trip to China. I'm planning on using it as a surprise new toy during the 24hr trip. I've read a lot of good reviews, so hopefully she'll like it.

We just retired FP kick and play bouncer -- it used to be one of her favorites.

Toys, you mean he's supposed to like actual toys?!

At almost 17 mths, DS's favorite stuff is not toys, but household stuff (makeup and hair brushes, tables, chairs, calculators, cell phones, utensils, electronics...you know, stuff he's not supposed to play with!)

Toys he loves...
Kiddo Supertrike 4
Baby pool (obviously seasonal)
sandbox (also seasonal)
slide and swings (are you seeing a pattern here? anything outdoors)
books, books and more books, particularly lift-the-flap books (which we affectionately refer to as "tear-the-flap" books around here!)

Things he likes....
balls
Sassy Firefly and Friends
Shape sorters
Little People Farm and Ark
xylophone
blocks
Sassy wallet
Parents cell phone
Parents PDA
Chicco mini piano

I know Learning Express carries them as well as other independent toy stores. You can also find them on the web. I believe they are made by Small World Toys. I would suggest two sets as one set makes just one car and I know DS likes to race cars.

HTH! These blocks are well loved in our home. :)

This is the broom I just bought my nephew. He loves it, perfect size for him and the dustpan is just too cute. Got it at a local toys store for $9 (canadian).

I remember seeing corn brooms at Ikea, I think they were quite cheap. Of course I can't find it on their website right now.

DD is 5 months

At this point she's more interested in rolling all over and putting toys in her mouth!

Fabric FP blocks
Gymini toys, esp. elephant (for its chewable trunk) and wind chimes. Since she's rolling out of the gym, I extended its life by placing mat on floor & arches + toys in play yard.
Lamaze pupsqueak
Yellow bear add-on to Graco swing
Handmade bunny security blanket (she actually plays with it)
Baby Mozart and Beethoven
Pop up books, winnie the pooh

She will be 7 months for Christmas, and her wish list (complied from searches on this board) includes

Leapstart learning table
Peek-a-blocks with dump truck
Playskool ball popper
Little Tikes Piano
Other non-battery powered musical instruments
FP Fishbowl
FP Stack a ring
Little people farm and ark (for when she's older)
LT Push walker car or Radio Flyer walker
Lamaze soft sorter
Some bath toys and more books!

Saartje
10-20-2004, 01:33 AM
Gymini (specifically the octopus, the monkey, and the wind chimes; he crawls off it, but comes back when he wants to play with it again)
Lamaze inchworm (likes to wrestle with it or drag it along as he crawls)
Stuffed monkey ("Mr. Monkey" -- I think the face looks human enough for him to recognize it as a smile)
Stuffed giraffe (long neck is easy to grasp)
Board books (Sandra Boynton)

His favorite "toy" right now, though, is any piece of paper he can get his hands on. It's easy to grab, it changes shape when he clutches it, it makes a noise when it crinkles, and it changes texture when he chews on it -- what more could a little boy want?

What a great thread!!

We're at 5.5 months. The most favorite has to be that piece of paper! He can destroy a sheet in no time flat :).

Other things he likes are:
Discover Sounds Musical Teapot by Little Tykes. (it's big enough and oddly shaped enough that he loves just trying to pick it up and move it around)
FP Action Blocks (they're tough to pick up, so they amuse him for a long while)
FP Peek-A-Block Wagon
Rattles and things he can hold onto while pounding
FP stacking doughnuts
His dad's guitar and piano

ETA: Also, he loves the remote control for the T.V. We're thinking of getting him his own (real, not a toy). How long does this phase last?

LOL! I don't think the remote control interest ever fades! I just caught DD (who's 19 months) standing in front of the t.v. with the remote in hand the other day. Her Einstein video had ended and it was stopped on the menu screen, so she was standing there looking at the remote and pushing buttons and then looking at the screen to see if it had changed anything. You could practically see the thoughts running through her head that "I know Mommy and Daddy use this thing to make the t.v. change..." I just wish I had had my camera close by.

Bump!

10-27-2004, 06:21 AM
My ds is now 13 months.

He loves in order of preference:

1. Neurosmith Together Tunes - we've had it since he was about 6 months and he has loved it ever since. He plays with it daily and dances to all the songs, his favorite songs are "five little monkeys" and "if you happy and you know it", he claps when it says clap your hands and blows a kiss when it says so. All my friends think that toy is the best ever. Best toy purchase ever. This has been a bigger hit that the Leap Frog Learning Table.

2. FP Classical Chorus Stacker - I think he just loves music so that's his favorite stacking toy. We have another stacker without music and he paid no interest but this one he is continuosly stacking and gets super excited when the music comes on.

3. Small world toys pound a ball with a hammer - he has not quite figured it out yet so uses his hands to push the balls in the hole instead of hammer, but uses the hammer for everthing else - really cute

4. Balls of all sort. He has only been interested in the balls from his FP stride to ride walker.

5. Board Books - his favorite is "peekaboo Kisses" he really like the squeaky mouse, he thinks it's funny.

6. ABC Block Books - one of my favorites but he still chews on them, like to dump them out of the box

7. Sorters - the really cheap one by FP although sometimes he gets frustrated when he is putting the wrong shape in the wrong hole but eventually he would get it after trial and error or he will just lift the lid and dump the shapes in - I love watching him in action because he takes those things so seriously

8. Peek A Block Train

10. Radio Flyer Wagon - He likes to climb in and out of it and have me push him around our apt. He never quite used it to learn to walk, kind of just started walking on his own at about 10 months, which was so weird because he was so comfortable crawling that we never thought he would walk soon.

11. And of course the stroller - he like pushing it around more than any of his trucks

Hee, hee! A few nights ago, DH and I played a few hands of gin after Ishie went to bed. Usually when we play a card game for points, we'll keep the score sheet and see who's in the lead when the paper's full. Not this time, though: we left the score sheet in the floor after we put the cards away. A few minutes into Isaac's playtime the next morning, I've never seen a piece of paper so shredded -- and I used to breed hamsters!

We have the I See Me book and it is just beautiful. We only look at it occasionally b/c DD likes to turn the pages herself so we stick mainly to board books for now.

Other favorites for our 13-month old:

-balls of any size or kind (will go chasing after the football when DH calls, "Fumble!"-too cute!)
-FP Little people house and car (likes to put people through the door and in and out of the car and chairs)
-board books (likes all books, catalogs, etc.-same obsession with paper)
-shape sorter (can't put shapes through proper holes, but likes to put shapes in and out of bucket with top off)
-nesting cups
-Little Tikes ride-on toy (called the Racer?)-likes to sit and ride or push
-rocking toys-we don't have any, but DD likes the boat and rocking horse at Gymboree play class so this might be a holiday gift for her
-just starting to like puzzles-she's good at taking the pieces out and is getting the hang of putting them back in, but needs help
-anything that she can put things in or out of (e.g., big plastic bowl with random links, small toys, plastic measuring cups, etc. or put blocks or small toys into the hole of her FP activity table

Is anyone getting a Cabbage Patch kid for their little one?

Great thread! DD is 11 months and loves these toys the best:

1. LeapStart learning table
2. Vtech phone
3. Flashcard set on rings from Wal-Mart (baby connection, I think. It's coated so she can chew each paper a long time before I have to tear the piece off that she's working on)
4. Ugly fabric book with bugs with fabric rings to chew on (a "Purdy" book, I think, found at TJMaxx/Marshalls)
5. Signing Times DVDs, Baby Looney Tunes Musical Adventures, Baby Looney Tunes Backyard Adventures (she's LOVED these since 6 months)
6. Still likes her Best Friends Bugs she's had since birth! Plays with them less now, but were her favorite from probably 4-8 months.
7. Our most recent acquisition, the Elmo guitar (less than $10), DD ADORES it.
8. and hoping she loves the new Kettler my Mom is getting her for her Birthday!

As far as non-toys:
7. The dog's ears
8. DH's watch

Lori,

DS got that little people fun park for his 1st bday. I put it away because he kept pulling the tracks off, and pulling the merry go round out of the toy. He would then pitch a fit and want me to put it back again. It was so annoying I actually considered gluing the pieces down. Did you have this problem? I might break it out again and see what he does with it this time around.

Great thread Jennifer. Thanks everyone for the great ideas!

DS is almost 22 mo old.
Right now his favorite things are:
Imaginarium Cosmo Shape Sorter

Little people playground
Incrediblock
Books (Wait For Elmo), Any Mazy book as well as first word books.

His number one all time favorite toy right now is his Elmo-size Elmo that plays an Elmo-ish version of the Village Peoples YMCA. He drags it around everywhere he goes. I draw the line at the bath!

He also has a twirly toy that has tendril type things that light up and spin when you press a button. This is his car toy and keeps him occupied for the duration.

His favorite DVD is the Wiggles Yummy/Yummy DVD. He never tires of it! He sings all the songs and is starting to do a lot of the "moves". It's soooo cute. There are lots more but these are his favorites for now.
