I'm looking for a shopping cart for DD's birthday and I would like it to be more realistic looking and it needs to have a seat for her baby dolls :-)

I saw this one at lillian vernon http://www.lillianvernon.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&productId=49265&addOn=485&categoryId=&catTree=&clearance=&sid=eas

Anyone have this or recommend something else?

Thanks!
Lisa

this is more like the real thing than the odd little tikes one but it still might be too plasticky for you.

i got ours at target for $15, minus the battat scroll in the handle (though it is made by battat). we used to take it in trader joe's (mornings when it was slow) when she was learning to walk and the whole staff would come out to cheer her on to the registers with her cart full of cereal and crackers! i have also seen true kid-sized metal ones on eBay from time to time.

We have this one:

I'm not sure if it is as realistic as you want, but DD likes it and uses it all the time. It's hard to see in the picture, but it does have a seat for baby dolls!

PBK has a very realistic shopping cart. It's chrome metal. I'm not positive about the seat for dolls.

I found this link. At least in this photo, I don't think it has the doll seat, but you may want to ask. DS loves pushing it around the store.

We have this one from PBK and it's very realistic but hard to push on carpet that is plush. It goes just fine on our wood floors though!

Ok, I've just got to ask a question here (not trying to be picky, but I've got wicked PMS ;) ) - do you mean that you're looking for something non-plastic, or less plasticy than the traditional Little Tikes one? Which is totally fine. I understand how you might not want a lot of plastic.

But, I've got to say, IMO, the Little Tikes one is fairly realistic, because around here, a lot of the real carts are red plastic (Target and Shaws (major grocery store)). I have not seen a "real" metal shopping cart in quite some time, so I'm not sure how realistic a play one is. :P

I just checked out the little tikes one and that's cute, I may just end up getting it. At our Trader Joes they have little chrome ones for children to push around and they are just so cute, I was kind of hoping for something like that with a seat for her baby doll, but that's a good point, most of them are plastic these days, I didn't even think about that!!

Sending you some cyber chocolate for the PMS ;-)

Oh, no fair - you've got a Trader Joes! We don't have any around here, although I have been in them.

Glad to know you didn't think I was being obnoxious. I think the chrome ones (a la PBK) are adorable. But when I started to think about it, I couldn't remember the last time I saw a real metal one at a store, kwim?

Anyway, we have been very happy with the Little Tikes one. DS likes to put his teddy bear and doll in the seat. It also seems pretty sturdy/non-tippy. HTH!

Wow-- it must really depend on where you live. I was just thinking about it and I am pretty sure that every single grocery store around me, from Ralphs to Whole Foods to TJs all have metal grocery carts. The only place I can think of that has plastic is Target.

By the way, DS LOVES the metal shopping cart at PBK MUCH more than the plastic Little Tikes one that we have. Maybe he has a thing about it looking more like the big carts around here, too :)

After I posted, I did wonder if it's a regional thing. (Hmmm, maybe a thing to ask on the cooking/food board where I post.) The only time I think I would see one of the metal carts here would be in a really old, independent grocery store that couldn't afford to upgrade, kwim? Our small market here used to have some, but just got new carts. They're not really plastic like Target, but more like some kind of rubber-coated metal, I think.

Are you in some kind of warm/dry-climate? I think the problem with metal here is that they eventually rust when left outside in the snow. Just my guess. :)
