I approached Debbie about a Steiff co-op and she himmed and hawwed (is that how you spell it) about it since Steiff is huge sticklers about such a sale...
But she said she can word it as a "store coupon good on Steiff products".
She did say she couldn't go over 25% off, but I suspect that is a good deal, we'd still have the actual shipping to people but I suspect that is minimal and she doesn't pad a profit to her shipping (it might be round up to the nearest dollar or so but not padded).
She needs to check with her hubby so it is not a 100% offer to us yet but it sounds like if we got about 10 she thinks he'd go for it.

She said that about two years ago Steiff started making animals that were soft too...

So everyone knows the "classic" teddy is "Teddy"...I have a Teddy and a Zody from my childhood...and a fox, and a hedgehog family.

Your child will have these forever!!!!!!
They are heirloom big time!!!!
I will try to do some searches so we can see what is out there...
Made in Germany (to my knowledge still today)...

This is a good grandparent present too!!!!!

I would possibly be interested in a coop for these stuffed animals, depending on price and the discount. Does anyone know of a good website where we could see the collection?

Thanks,

Oh, my mom had a few of their small bears and a couple of other animals (a goat and I cant't remember what else) with a swing set from their childhood. We used to love playing with them. Unfortunately, I recently asked my mother about these, but she can't remember what happened to them.

They are heirloom quality, but I remember them being expensive. I might be interested, though.

I may be interested, I'd have to take a look at the current collection. Do we have to pick from her current stock, or can she order anything?

To everyone, keep in mind that they are expensive, but the mohair ones are the most expensive. The non-mohairs are much less expensive, though not as appealling to many teddy bear conniesseurs.

Neve, you'll like this story: I have one little Steiff mohair bear, maybe about 5-6" tall. I found him literally laying in a puddle in the street one cold, rainy day while I was out walking my dog. I took the bear home, dried him out, and waited to see if someone was looking for him (it was in our subdivision). No one came forward, so he still lives with us - though now instead of puddles, he gets to live in a china cabinet with my other prized dolls!

I feel safe to say we'd have pick of the litter...she said how the new cataolgs had some real nice things this year so she'd be ordering these for us so I assume whatever we want we can get :)

Yes guys they are expensive, she said there are some price pointed low (a new line) but I can't vouch if they are made in Germany etc...

I'll try to find some links...

It is very busy and hard to follow...
My advice for those who are not familiar with Steiff is to look at the Classic Teddy's...
There is a Teddy and I think a Zody which were atleast what they use to be known for it you are interested in a classic looking bear.

I am interested in the Pooh Bear...

I would definitely be interested depending on the price!

For those saying they'd be "in" depending on pricing...look at some of those sites linked and I assume the price they show as retail will be about what Debbie's is if not exact.
From there it would be 25% off of that price...

Thanks for the info on the store in a previous thread. I'm looking forward to visiting the store. I can't participate in co-op as the Steiffs are out of my budget for now.

Neve-

Thanks for checking into this. I hope there isn't a requirement that what we buy is for our children since I have a weakness for well-made mohair bears! I have not bought one in about 5 years and I am thinking mama needs a new bear ;)

OK, Steiff HQ are about 20 mins. from me!! I never knew there was interest here in them, but apparently they have a huge warehouse sale every year. I think we missed the sale by about 2 weeks.

Soooo, next year - I'd be happy to go hunting for bears :)

Lori,
Yup we missed it by 2 weeks!! It was October 7th -8th.

Here's the info from the Providence Journal:

"Steiff, the company that invented the teddy bear in 1902, is having its annual WAREHOUSE SALE Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Shoppers will find a substantial discount on its bears and other stuffed animals as samples and discontinued merchandise. It's at the Raynham Woods Commerce Park, 425 Paramount Dr., Raynham, Mass. Take Route 24 to Exit 13A, Middleboro. At the second light (Wal-Mart), take a right. Steiff is eight-tenths of mile on the right."
