It's going to be a Thomas themed Christmas for Declan this year. I was going to tivo some of the shows to get him familiar but they are not running on the PBS stations that we receive (what's up with that!).

So any recs for a beginner Thomas dvd? What are your child's/your faves? TIA!

DS's favorite is Percy's Chocolate Crunch. He loves it when Percy gets covered in chocolate.

The first one we got was Thomas and His Friends Get Along. I think it was a good starter. There are lots of stories and it gets you familiar with the different characters.

Which Thomas trains have you bought him? I'd get a DVD with those trains incorporated in the stories (if you list them, I can look at our collection and suggest a few DVDs for you).

DS#2 is 4 1/2 and his fav. Thomas DVD is "Percy's Chocolate Crunch". His second fav. is probably "Races, Rescues & Runaways".

There is a new box set out that has the original Thomas episodes from England on them (when Thomas meets the other trains). It's a 3 disc set called "The Early Years". I found it at Best Buy a few weeks ago.

I've ordered him the Mountain Tunnel set. It comes with Thomas, Mike and Harold. http://www.kindertrains.com/99541.html We're still talking about getting a figure 8 but I think that might be overkill.

I've read a bunch of the threads and it seems like Percy is a fave. So I was going to get him. And maybe James and/or Gordon. Although I'm getting pretty mixed up myself. So any recommendations are welcome!

Thanks Lori!

I can't believe I'm about to admit this, but I think we own every Thomas tape/DVD that has ever been made. It all started when a lady in our local MOMS club offered me a BOX full of old Thomas tapes for $10. That was all she wrote. We've been Thomas fans since. This is a good 3 DVD set to get started (good value!):

That's probably the one that I would recommend, too - and it includes Percy's chocolate crunch!

We have this one and it's good if you want several DVDs. We bought ours on half.com for a great price.

We've got a couple DVDs, as well as a few tapes. Our PBS shows it on Sunday mornings, so we TIVO it then. I find that all the ones they show, we've already got.

Not sure which one specifically you should get, but check the box to see if it lists the narrator. There are a few narrated by Alec Baldwin, and IMO, he's not that good. Some of them are narrated by George Carlin, and he does a pretty good job. There are some really old ones narrated by Ringo Starr, and those are DH's favorite.

I just ordered from www.deepdiscountdvd.com (with 20% off code now expired) and got Thomas & Friends the Early Years which is a 3 disk set that has all the first episodes on it (well, 2 disks are episodes and 1 disc is bonus features). It was under $20 with the code. I think it will be good because it introduces all the main characters for the first time. I tried to get Jacob to watch it this morning but he wanted Maisy instead, which is his current obsession. I also got the 3 disk set with Best of Thomas, Best of James and Best of Percy. That was even cheaper, about $15 with the code, and MUCH cheaper to buy the set than to buy each of those 3 individually. If DS likes these (hopefully!) I will probably get the other 3 disk set that includes Percy's Chocolate Crunch, since that sounds like a good one!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

Jennifer - is the 3 disk set (best of Thomas/James/Percy) the one that's listed as the Thomas & Friends 3 pack with train on http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemID=ABD012729

The site doesn't list which ones the set contains and I'm hoping it's the one you listed. Thanks!

The 3 pack with train set that you linked to is not the Best of Thomas, James, and Percy set. Here's the link to the Best of T,J, and P.
http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemID=ABD012575

I got it and the one you linked to. I can check at home to see what that one includes if you want. It came with a Percy train.

The Best of Thomas/Percy/James was clearly marked as LBW linked to above and not the mystery 3-pack. I didn't order the Thomas & Friends 3 pack with train http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemID=ABD012729 because I wasn't sure what it contained. LBW please do check at home and let me know what 3 DVD's came in the Thomas & Friends 3 Pack with train from Deepdiscountdvd.com. I would love to know if it is the 3 pack that includes Percy's Chocolate Crunch. Thanks!
