Just wondering about the quality of these, or if anyone can suggest an alternate block set for my 15 month old. Thanks.

We have the Melissa and Doug wooden alphabet blocks, and I think they are great. I'm pretty sure the M&D blocks are smaller than the PBK ones, but this has not been a problem. My DD really loves to stack them, and I love the pictures on them! I posted about them a few weeks, ago, and I'll try to find a link to that thread. I paid $10.99 at Ross for them, but have also seen them for that price at TJ Maxx and Marshall's.

The advantage of the PBK blocks is their large size. However, the wood seems soft and prone to nicks/dents.

Another option is the Uncle Goose Blocks. http://www.constructiontoys.com/store/ung-main.php

Thanks - maybe I'll stay away from the PBK ones. $35 is a lot to spend on something that will nick and dent. Thanks for the suggestions on the alternatives - both look great.

We have the abacus which is basically the blocks built into a frame. The quality seems to be great though.

We have the PBK (bigger) and M&D (smaller) blocks and enjoy both. Although the PBK blocks are definitely prone to nicks and dents, that's part of the charm of it for me (i.e., the toothmarks are a reminder of how he used to bite and now builds, etc.). They are expensive and I would not have bought them had it not been a special occasion. I should also mention that ours are almost three years old now and being passed on to our new baby so the minor nicks do not in any way prevent them from being used for many years.

We have them. I got them last year. I like that they are bigger and Andrew has never had a problem stacking them. He loves stacking them as high as he can reach. I also like they have a box to keep them in.

I don't know about the PBK blocks, but I wanted to chime in to say that littleman has the Ryan's Room "Around the Blocks" and they are great!
