What's the best "fence" to protect my Christmas tree from my toddler?

I am using the Supergate- so far my son hasn't been able to get to the tree or gifts. We already had the Supergate to go around our computer, and are using it for the tree instead.

We have never actually had a fence (and this is our 4th year with a toddler at Christmas). We just make sure that the ornaments on the bottom are toddler-safe (soft or plastic, unbreakable). The gifts that go under the tree before Christmas morning are out way back so they're not immediately obvious. Then we just watch the child(ren) for a little while and if they approach the tree we let them know what is acceptable and what is not. By watching them for the first 24 hours we have the rest of the Christmas season under (enough) control.

Of course I do make sure to clean up fallen needles every day.
