Any experience with a nice puppet set? Example:

I want to buy my son a set that he can play with and was hoping that people here had some input. TIA!

One thing about the puppets from OT is that they are very small. Just right for tiny hands but I could only get my fingers in.

We have animal puppets as well as a king, queen, fireman, policeman and a few other people. The animals are played with far more then the others.

I also made one of those hanging doorway theaters. We have puppet shows once in a while.

Thank you so much for the input. I guess I am looking for something more substantial that he can play with for a long time. Anyone else have any thoughts? TIA!

Puppets are actually one of my sister's obsessions in terms of buying stuff for DD. She is convinced she remembers me always putting on puppet shows in our youth (I have no recollection, but whatever), so has decided it is a brilliant idea to ensure that DD, and now DS, will be puppet masters as well.
We have a lot of really nice Folkmanis puppets, which she swears are the best (I'm convinced she buys them simply for their resemblance to the puppets in Fraggle Rock). They are truly beautiful, but pricey. Here's an example:

These suckers are cute cute! http://www.folkmanis.com/

I don't have any standard puppet sets, but if I were to order one, I think this one is adorable. I like the vintage look in the facial design.

We also like Folkmanis puppets. We don't have any people figures but several animals. They are very nice and stuffed animal-like...very well-made.

My advice would be to wait a while to purchase puppets. Of course, if you're wanting to start collecting them because they are expensive, then go ahead. My kids didn't start enjoying puppets much to play with themselves until they were about 2 years old. Also, they're still not very into puppets despite my best efforts to get them interested so I'm glad that we didn't sink lots of money into buying sets of puppets. They are much more interested in playing with small plastic animals and figures of people (knights, pirates, superheros, etc).

has some adorable puppet sets. They come in a 5 pack. I got DS a set for 7.00!! They would probably retail 5-8.00 a piece at a toy store. hth
